so i just created this list in open office. im pleased with myself. im certain it has been done before and done to death, but i figure cant hurt to post another take on it.

thank you, ms. magpie, for reminding me to make a REAL checklist. seems more official. i made it for jamie so he can feel organized about everything. mine is not as pretty as yours, but i may make it look foxy later on when i get the content all settled.

anyways, thought id share, because i am always appreciative of other people's methods.

this checklist is an amalgamation of all of the info i have come across. ive tried to only include 'verified' information and 'best practices'.

i dont know if that info is mentioned in 'packet 4'. i read in the interview thread that boht credit cards and cash (USD or sterling) were accepted for the visa fee, but it was cash only for the courier fees.

Ooh. that looks a lot more serious than mine! I did one that's all fluffy-wuffy...and really basic, but it was more because I like making pretty things. Your checklist is AWESOME and very thorough.

Your checklist is very thorough , but as you said, you would rather be over-prepared...but practically speaking, you do not need the following and it would really eliminate extra bulk (because the CO at the embassy at the time of interview already has this stuff in front of him/her): NOA1, NOA2, Packet 3, and copy of the entire submitted I-129F...( you are fine in keeping the original I-129F materials submitted and additional evidence since...but the actual copy of the filed I-129F is not needed)

All I needed was:

Passport photos

Passport

Birth certificate and copy

Police record and copy

I-134

The missus's 2007 tax return

The missus's letter of employment

Money for fee (£90 on credit card)

Money for courier (I had cash, but people were paying by card)

It's a great checklist tho, it really is.

I just wish they posted something similar on the embassy site and said "this is all you need. Bring this and you will be fine" rather than having to pick up bits and pieces and then panicking about it all. That's what got me all flustered!

More to the point, why didn't you do this for me a week ago?!

I'm pretty sure that's the case.. but I assume it's best to update the letter anyway, if you have the chance while mailing out other papers.

Well, you do need two forms of evidence of support...so tax returns/transcripts could be substituted for other kinds of evidence, I guess .

Yeah, you need a combination of the things on the above checklist, but not all of them.

It might be better to put an x beside where it says "Affidavit of Support", rather than beside each possible item of evidence. The same goes for "Evidence of relationship"; as far as I'm aware, you don't *need* a copy of the I-129F (though it's a handy thing to have).

It just makes it look as though an awful lot more is required than seems to be necessary. Pothergavel needed 7 different items, whereas the checklist above makes it looks as though 34 different items are needed.

Not that I'm criticising; if it fits the OP's needs then cool. And it's inspired me to maybe have a crack at doing one for myself.

yay!

i love organization. AND OFFICE SUPPLIES. the best thing about all of the red tape with this visa was having an excuse to buy some new supplies. color coded-folders, binder clips, colored post-its (i even found CLEAR post-its! awesome. : )), special sharpie pens (i am a devotee of this fine point) etc.

and, yes, my list is pretty exhaustive because, for me, it is not much extra work to get all of the items mentioned as possibilities for submission at the interview. i think jamie with have a core packet with the main items we will submit, and then a folder with back-up items, in case all hell breaks loose.

i think if there were things i couldnt get, i would not be worried about it, but since i can get basically everything, im making all of them available to the embassy should they want them. im sending jamie the originals, and everything is scanned and uploaded and therefore immediately available to him as copies.

i am sure that, like most people have said, we will only need the core items (appointment letter, passport, birth certificate, police record, 2 photos, affidavit of support + evidence, and payment), but there is no way that we would show up without all of the incidental items just in case. it will lower our stress level which is invaluable.

and i dont take offence at all to the critiques. i know everyone does this differently. im pleased for the discussion. i actually have a couple of questions, but ill see what i can research and them post them.
