I am a US citizen applying for a K-1 visa for my fiancee Gloria, who is from Singapore. I was in Singapore doing college from Aug 2003--July 2006, and doing my Master's from Aug 2006--Aug 2008, while my fiancee is a Singapore citizen who has lived in Singapore all her life. I am currently studying for my PhD in Boston.

I've done some reading on this forum and elsewhere, and I'm pretty sure that the evidence we'll be submitting is convincing, but I just wanted to get a second opinion from some of the brave fellows who have gone before. Any comments?

  • My Bachelor's and Master's transcripts from university.
  • My payslips from the university while I was doing the Master's.
  • My student's pass, which is a legal document issued by the immigration authority in Singapore to allow me to stay in Singapore as a student. The student's pass lists my address.
  • My parents' Singapore ID cards, which list their address, to show that I lived with my parents.
  • My birth certificate, to show that my parents are indeed my parents.
  • My Singapore bank statements.
  • A photo of us during our commencement in July 2006.
  • Gloria's pay slips, showing that she has been working in Singapore from June 2006--present.
  • Gloria's passport, showing that she is a Singaporean citizen.
  • Gloria's birth certificate, just in case.
  • Airplane ticket stubs from Gloria's November 2008 visit to Boston.
  • Gloria's itinerary of her trip to Boston.
  • Gloria's passport stamp of her entry to the US.
  • Statement from Bank of America that we opened an account together in December 2008.
  • Bank statement from Bank of America.
  • Airplane ticket stubs from my January 2009 trip to Singapore.
  • My itinerary of my trip to Singapore.
  • Credit card statement that indicates I bought something while in Singapore.

And of course, other information

  • Photos (4) from the last two years
  • E-mails (4) from the last two years
  • Letters (4) from the last two years, with stamped envelopes
  • Receipt for engagement ring
  • Skype record of phone calls
  • Gloria's mobile phone bill

Of course I am submitting copies of the aforementioned documents, and not the originals. My photos do not have dates, but I will add dates to them (the correct dates of course), and will choose one from our winter in Boston.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, WAY too much information!!!!!!!!

For the I-129f petition, you need to document you have met in person at least one time in the last two years, that is all. Everything else you send will be put in the re-cycle bin. Won't hurt anything but is absolutely unnecessary.

Here is my evidence, in its entirety:

"while returning from a trip to Ukraine, on September 19, 2007 I met Alla while waiting in line for bus tickets at the airport terminal in Prague, CZ Republic"

I attached copies of my boarding passes for that trip, one photo taken at a restaraunt in Prague (could have been anywhere in the world and it doesn't matter WHERE you met) and copies of my passport stamps. That is ALL.

Save the rest for your visa interview.

Thanks for your reply and opinion!

That seems like very little evidence. From what I read I thought they wouldn't approve your I-129F just based on that evidence! Hmm...

You are only petitioning to allow a visa application. Meeting one time in two years meets the qualification to petition a visa. When you go for the visa interview to apply for the visa you will need to provide evidence of ongoing relationship and that is where the other stuff comes in. You have plenty! If you want to send more with the petition, why not? Do what makes you comfortable, too much will not get you rejected, but it is not necessary for the petition. Send it all if you want, the adjudicator will have something to talk about in the break room and will probably say something like "What the....." :)

They won't throw anything away. Everything you submit will be sent to the consulate after approval. If your fiancee lived in a high fraud country, like China, I'd recommend to include anything and everything you can get your hands on, but in this case, it's most likely overkill.

Comments like this are untrue, and following such advice in every circumstance can come back to bite a petitioner later, depending on the consulate that has to be dealt with later.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I agree with TBone, while it may not be required, it's certainly not usually going to hurt your case to front load your initial petition (unless, of course, you put something conflicting in there). At most higher fraud posts it most certainly should be the standard to do so. All of the paperwork will be forwarded to the Embassy with your NOA2/I-797. Do be sure to collect and save more supporting evidence for interview time as well.

Without commenting on the other replies directly, I've edited your list for what I'd submit with the petition. Most of your list is either unnecessary or can be taken to the interview as evidence of a bona fide ongoing relationship. Evaluating bona fides is not part of the petition adjudication process. The Consular officer will do that during the interview. You may want some of the information you listed along with more current evidence from the months between now and the interview.

Primary evidence like passport stamps and boarding passes is sufficient evidence of meeting in person. Once they see those, any other evidence of meeting is redundant. There are circumstances and/or Consulates where some evidence of bona fides submitted with the petition can be critical but your case and Singapore wouldn't fit the circumstances.

I wouldn't "recycle bin" anything you've listed but most of it is overkill for the petition and some of it is irrelevant to the bona fides later as well.
