Kinds of Marriage. Confused. :S

My fiance and I are still deciding which VISA to pursue. So I have some questions.

I know that you are required to file a Marriage Certificate, but are they picky as to what kind of wedding you have? Would it be okay to just get married in front of a judge, or a Marriage Officiant. Like, would they care about whether or not you had a small ceremony, with few witnesses, or does USCIS want a huge wedding, with the dress, the reception and the massive amount of witnesses >_<?

What kind of marriages have occurred on VJ? D<

And my fiance and I have had a strong on-going relationship of almost 2 years, so if all else we have that as evidence. :3

Not everyone can afford big wedding with cakes and lots of guests. so incase if one is having a small ceremony it is beneficial to send affidavits from 3rd party to confirm that the marriage is bona fide.

We had a small ceremony, it's not the type of ceremony"Big or Small" but your documention take lots of photo's with you and your spouse and with family members are also ideal if at your wedding.Make sure you have the dates burned on the photos!! phots of your spouse and you wearing yourwedding rings, wedding cake, announcement of your wedding and so on. you need to identify when and were the photo's were taken and who is in the picture. keep receipts from expenses, demonstrating time spent together like wedding cost plane tickets/borading pass. As for witnesses you can ask them to give you a Affidavits of bona fide marriage. when you go to file, 3 or 4 from your family and your spouse.

USCIS is concerned about the legality of the marriage, not anything about a ceremony.

I think weddings are extremely personal and only the couple getting married should make the decision on what type of wedding to have. The USCIS only cares about the legality of the marriage, not what kind of wedding a couple decides to have.

What happens if theres no family members at all from the non usc's side? But about 30-40 from the USC side?

Most of my friends are in university and cant afford it, an dmy parents are dead against me marrying someone from out of the country and my family wants to have nothing to do with it.

Is that going to look bad?

Ok, I'll bite. What happens is the "Your family won't be in any of the wedding pictures." It's not going to look "good" but it's not that uncommon. There were certainly none of my family members in China when my wife and I married.

We had a small ceremony in front of a judge. My Dad was the only one of my family present and none of my husband's family were present. The only other people there were our two friends and their daughter. Whatever works for you is fine as long as it is a legal marriage.

Ok, I'll bite. What happens is the "Your family won't be in any of the wedding pictures." It's not going to look "good" but it's not that uncommon. There were certainly none of my family members in China when my wife and I married.

your right it's not uncommon, none of my family was in the Philippines when we got married.

I just wish my family would stop being so bitter about this. It breaks my heart. My dad shouldnt be one to be too pissed.. He had my mom move from portugal to Canada , and leave her family behind 35 yrs ago

They dont like the idea of me moving to another country with the kids (Their only grandchildren) , and just finding someone 'local'. They wouldnt ever give him a chance either, they dont want to meet him. Which is sad, because Im confident they would adore him (compared to my past relationships). And the fact Ill be leaving the kids behind until my ex lets the kids follow, which he said he will do once I get a job and Im stabalized down there, and my parents despise my exhusband and dont want the kids with him alone. And since all my family lives about a 20 hour drive from where Im at currently (due to my ex's job, hes in the military), they know that my ex will hardly ever let the kids communicate with them once Im not here and in the U.S. Plus their concerns about my ex not following through possibly and then having a court battle to get them down to be with me I guess.

We had no one at our wedding (K-1).. no one.. and we were fine!

We submitted other pics of me with hubbys family and him with mine (other visits at other times)...

Is it really that important for people pursuing the CR-1 route? Because my fiance and I don't have any pictures whatsoever with the date stamped on them. I actually print my digital pictures so i hate having that annoying time stamp on them. I know that for k-1 visas is important to prove you have met within a certain time but is it important for Cr-1 route as well?
