Ok just to clarify that means that in packet 3 there is:

a checklist that you need to show that you have all required items

DS230 Part I, what do you do with Part II ?

A statement from beneficiary that they sign

You don't have to pay fees at this time?

Pkt 3 has a checklist for you to keep a track of whether you have all the documents or not. DS230 form part 1 & 2. You need to fill up part 1 and submit at the consulate and then you will receive pkt 4 which will hv your appointment letter for the interview, all the forms, medical exam requirements and the list of doctors that you can go to for your medical. Remember you can download DS230 part 1 from the website and fill it out and submit it at the consulate without waiting to receive your pkt 3 (once you know the case has reached the Consulate and save days) a week from then you can go back and collect pkt 4 from the consulate too and save more days. Read instructions on pkt 4 carefully and get medical out of the way asap. Collect all documents na submit to the VFS between 15-10 working days before the interview. Now just wait for the actual interview. All the best!

DanielParul/Others:

I am in a similar situation as Karri. K1 visa. I was approved on Dec 28 and did get a letter from NVC a week ago. I got my case number from NVC and they did inform me when my file left for the Mumbai Consulate (Jan 6). I believe the Mumbai Consulate received my file on Jan 10 (I was tracking DHL assuming that packet was mine ). In any case, how do you know if the Consulate received your file ? Do you call/email them and are they responsive. My fiancee is still waiting to receive Packet 3.

In the meantime, I have looked at their website and downloaded pkt 3. Do you check all items on the checklist and fill out the applicant statement at the end. And send that back along with DS 230 Part I. Can DS 230 be legibly 'Hand Filled' or has to be typed ?

Also, saw an Applicant Readiness Form (DS-2001). Does that need to be sent in with the Pkt 3 ?

Thanks,

Just call the Consulate and ask if they have received your case. If they have, fill a DS230 part 1 (I filled mine online and printed it out, keep a copy coz you will nd to fill another one when you go for the interview and you don't want discrepancies) submit only the form at the Consulate and wait a week (call NVC to see if they have given you an interview date) once they do, you do not need to wait for pkt 4, just go and collect it from the window too.

All you need to submit from pkt 3 is DS 230 part 1 and if you do it before you get your pkt 3, you have actually skipped that step and do not need pkt 3 anymore.

I am in the same situation. Had my NOA-2 approved today 1/14 (I am the petitioner) and was trying to figure out Packet 3/4 for my fiance in Delhi.

I had a question. I will be there when my fiance has her interview. I read you have to mark somewhere who will come with you to the interview. I was wondering if that was in Packet 3 or packet 4?

Thanks

Gagan

No you don't have to mark it anywhere. You as USC cannot be denied entry into the embassy or the Consulate. Just carry your passport and they will let you in. Its up to the CO to hv you present during the interview so just walk to the window with her and if the CO tells you to wait, you can sit in the waiting areabut by then the CO already knows that you are there and it helps your case.

A word of advice from experience - Practice handing out the papers to the CO supporting your answer while answering coz they will not ask for them. Its a good idea to show you hv supporting evidence and you are prepared. Not for all the questions but every 2-3 question.

My fiancee will go to New Delhi consulate as well...

Dilbert30 - See that you got APPROVED  . WOOHOO. You must me really excited to get it just before your trip to India in Feb. You should try and take all your documents (Affidavit of Support docs, NOA2, NVC letter (you should get this in a week or so), etc. Also, try to keep all your receipts when you are in India. I left mine with my fiancee when I visited her last month.

For the PCC, they needed a copy of my NOA2 when my fiancee applied for the PCC from the District PS. Fortunately, I had scanned and emailed it to her. For the Regional Passport office, nothing was required and there was no issue there. I am still waiting to get the local PCC. They came in for the verification today and said it would be ready next week for pick up. Excited about that. Think she applied a week ago. So, looks like it didn't take that long.

My case reached the Mumbai Consulate on Jan 10. Tracked it through DHL. I just got off the phone with the DOS. Pkt 3 has not been sent yet but the Mumbai Consulate has received my file from the NVC. She wouldn't tell me the date they received it as she is not allowed to. She just said it was this month. But when I inquired if it was Jan 10, she said that sounds like a good date (which I am taking it to mean .. YES). She couldn't tell me when Pkt 3 would be sent.

Cheers,

1) NVC phone number=603-334-0700

2) For DHL tracking, you need to know the date when it left NVC (you need to call NVC to find out). NVC will give you your case number and the date it left for the consulate. Next, go to the dhl link below

http://track.dhl-usa.com/TrackByRef.asp?nav=TrackByRef

and use that date in your ref using this format 'exp 20 jan 2009a' (if your file left NVC on Jan 20, for instance). Don't think you need the quotes.

It will pop all packages that were shipped to different places around the world. If your case is going to New Delhi and you only see 1 file slated for Delhi delivery, it is very likely that package is your file. You can then track that. Usually would take 3/4 days to arrive at the consulate.

there is a link in one of the threads that goes into a lot of detail.. believe the aug 08 csc filers...but it boils down to what I am summarizing here in this post.....

3) As for receipt at the consulate, don't think you can get much out of the embassy. You would have to get in touch with them first and we all know how easy it is to get them to respond to emails or get them on the phone. You can however, call DOS @202-663-1225 and they can tell you if the consulate has received your file and if pkt 3/your interview is scheduled. You need to give it some time before they can look up the info. DOS has access to the consulate databases. So, once the info is entered by the consulates, DOS can view it and share with you.

Hope that helps.

Thats exactly how you can do it. For the case number, when you call the NVC and give them the old number, ask for the new case number assigned and they will be able to tell you. All the best everybody and keep us posted on how it goes!

Need help with Question on DS 230, #22

22. List below all employment for the last ten years.... and at the end it says,

In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States?

How are you guys answering that? I had someone suggest to me to put N/A (since DS 230 is used for other visa categories, too and this one does not apply to K1 necessarily) and another suggest to put your fiancee's current occupation ?

Any thoughts/ideas there ? What are you guys doing ?

Thanks
