Hotel la centre ville is pretty much right across the street from it! 1 minute walk!! Nothign fancy but rooms were clean!!

Try expedia.ca, travelocity.ca or aircanada.ca , westjet

If you do a search on VJ you should find many hotel reviews.

1 can take a shuttle from the airport to any downtown hotel. Much cheaper than a cab. And cheaper if you buy a round trip ticket. Purchase the tickets just to the right of the departurtes area.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hi,

I've just sent off an email to McGill's residences to see if I can book a dorm room for a few nights. I want to explore Montréal a bit (haven't been there in ages), and I can't afford shelling out $100+ a night (or, rather, I can but would rather not as I'll be spending more time exploring than sitting in a hotel room!). If the dorms aren't available, I'm going to book something through hotwire or expedia.

I found WestJet to have the best fare when I flew from Ontario. It will depend where your flight originates. Good luck and enjoy Montreal - it is well worth visiting for a few days. Be sure to see Old Montreal - incredible.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

More detailed info in regards to accommodations at McGills, in case you're interested. (I just received their emailed reply today) ... I'm going to reserve a room for a few days at their Royal Victoria College location, which is only 1km away from the Consulate. Barring that, I'll go with a friend's recommendation: http://www.auberge-alternative.qc.ca/prices.htm (their private single rooms are on par with McGill's single rooms' prices).

McGill's email reply:

plates, cutlery etc. are not provided). Included in the rooms are,

linen, soap and towels. The rooms themselves are not air-conditioned,

however, our front office rents out fans, kettles and irons. We do have

a small number of double rooms available (these too share bathrooms with

the other rooms on the floor). Double rooms are available for a minimum

stay of three nights at Bishop Mountain Hall and are not available after

August 1st. We also have a few apartment-style units called "AD

rooms"(Available only at Bishop Mountain Hall). These have a small

bedroom (for one or two people), a small sitting room, a private

bathroom, and a kitchenette. These rooms are also available for a

minimum stay of three nights and are not available after August 1st.

when I went, I took the train from Toronto and stayed at the hostel. The train ride was nice, only about 4 hours (there are commuter trains that take longer tho, so watch which one you book yourself on!) and the hostel was clean, but a bit noisy. There's no curfew there as there are at some, so there was people coming and going at all hours. I wasn't able to sleep much anyway because I was nervous about my interview the next day anyhow, so it wasn't such a big deal. And I slept on the train home for a bit.

I stayed in a dorm room not a private, so I shared with 3 strangers. One of whom snored. And the bathroom was incredibly small, but when all you need is a place to lie your head and a shower in the morning, the hostel wasn't too bad.

The walk from the hostel to the consulate is about 20 to 30 minutes, but a taxi might not cost you too much.

If you take the train, you can put your luggage and stuff in a locker there. They only have lockers available for ticketed passengers.

**edit to add** if you stay at the hostel, take a travel alarm clock with you, or set the alarm on your cell phone if it has one. There's no clock in the dorm rooms.

Hotel Centre Ville is where I stayed. The rooms are not worth the price they are asking, however the conveniance of the location is!

I was going to book tickets with Canjet but I found Air Canada was exactly the same price, and had more flights. I was able to get in at night, get my interview, then get out that afternoon.
