Hi all,

My SO will be traveling to HCMC soon, so I want to give her a good idea of what to expect for the medical exam. Anyone that has gone through this, I would greatly appreciate any help you can give me!

How long does the exam take? Do they give you the results a few hours after the exam is over or days later?

My SO is not for HCMC so traveling out involves a bit more time and money.

Thanks again!

We went to Chợ Rẫy hospital. What a little slice of hell. We personally know the director of one of the departments of this hospital, chị Tư. She admits the place is a shithole (there are two to a bed), but there just isn't enough money to do anything about it, they are doing the best they can.

I suppose it's an all right place to get the medical exam, but the other place certainly couldn't be any worse. If memory serves, she got the exam on one day, and we went back the next day to pick up the all-important HUGE packet with the stupid chest x-ray. They made her run up and down the halls repeatedly (in high heels) and then pronounced that she had high blood pressure, a diagnosis no-one has been able to recreate under any circumstances, even now that she is eight months pregnant.

Anyway, just plan on going there twice, once in the morning to get the exam, and again the afternoon of the next day to get the results. Don't hold the taxi, as it may take some time on both occasions.

she should goes to IOM

1-make 1 copy of interview letter for medical exam (IOM)

3-call for your appointment @ IOM on Phạm Ngọc Thạch St (across nhà văn hóa thanh niên)

4-on you exam day you will have to go to Trung Tâm chích ngừa (Vaccination place) on Nguyễn Văn Trổi St. (continuation of Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa) give them your interview letter @ window #1. wait for your name to be called, you will pay a Fee 200,000VND.

5-take your receipt then go inside to the room on the right (next to the cashier window) give them your receipt (keep your interview letter). after getting your shots wait for result (Approx time spend @ vaccination place is 1-2 hrs)

6-go back to IOM, give them a copy of your interview letter, passport, 2 photos 4x6, and your vaccine result. they will give you a picture ID and lung x-ray requirement form, you will go to the cashier window to pay the fee. Fee will be Paid in USD=$100

7-go to x-ray office on Pastuer St. (corner of Nguyễn thị minh khai and gas station) give them your x-ray form

8-after your x-ray go back to IOM office for your medical exam.

9-after your medical exam go home.

10- IOM will give your result next day @ 4PM, but come in early, bring your appointment letter.

Hmmm, should I take the bait or not? I'll only nibble. I can't help it if I dislike Saigon immensely. My wife hates Saigon much more than I do--she just doesn't know as many colorful words as I do (in English). And the truth is the truth. That hospital is a very, very dirty place. How else can I say it? I'm sure the other one couldn't be any worse, and I hope it's better.
