Hi fellow VJs,

I miss everyone here! I hope all of you guys are doing fine!

Q: I was in the US last October to November 13 under CR-1 Visa status.

I am back here in the Philippines and I wonder of many things:

1. Why I did not receive SSN, I'm sure that I check the box during the application to send SSN automatically. Also, during POE in Portland, I was asked my Stateside address so they can send the SSN.

2. There is no stamp or anything indicated in my passport that I arrived here in the Philippines, I noticed this when I look at my passport last week! There's no stamp indicating my arrival in the Philippines.

3. My CR-1 Visa indicates expiration date of December 3, 2008. Does it mean I have to renew it if I want to travel to US again?

I will call SSN people tomorrow but will be glad to hear anything from you guys!

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Not a problem, the CR-1 is VOIDED the moment it is used, it is a single entry visa. The POE stamps passport with I-551 stamp, this makes passport act as a temp green-card, the stamp, and then later the green-card is used to re-enter the USA.

Too answer questions.

1) CR-1 visas tend to not get SSN in the mail, most have to visit SSA office and order one.

2) Entry stamp from PI is not an issue, what is important is the I-551 stamp given at the US POE when you used the CR-1, the I-551 will allow you to leave PI and to re-enter the USA.

3) Not a problem, the I-551 stamp replaces the visa.

Don't bother calling SSA, simply visit the SSA office once you get back to the USA and order a card.

I guess I missed seeing that the OP got her I-551 stamp [green card] in her PP.

Sure hope she did!

Well that depends how long you've been back in the Phils though. You said you got your CR1 last October. Does that mean October 2008 or October 2007? If you've been gone a year without having applied for a re-entry permit, you'll have to start the entire process all over again.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

My Immigrant VISA CR-1 status was granted July 2008 then I flew to Portland October 5, 2008. I came back to the Philippines last November 14, 2008. (My husband works in the Army in S.Korea so I don't have any reason to stay longer in the United States, he comes back and forth here when his work permits).

Does it mean I don't have to apply for re-entry, right?

Thanks Reba and to all the responses!!!

Hello....I am researching about I-551 stamp and I don't have it either....what does it look like?

My passport j have a stamp saying my Departure from the Philippines and Arrival to Portland (general stamp they give I guess?). Then a handwritten text "A#" which was the exact number in the Cr-1 Immigration VISA issued for me.

Again, what if I decided to visit the U.S. again? Will it be possible without this I-551 stamp?

The I-551 stamp would actually say "I-551" on it, and should be the one they stamped your passport with when you entered in October.

So you are not living in the US? you just visited to activate your CR1 visa, What are you going to do when you need to remove the conditions of your Greencard, you need to show evidence of your joint life here in the US with your husband. Have you not recieved your greencard? you should have got it by now, but if you are not in the US you wont know if it has been issued or not. You need to maintain your LPR status or you will lose your Greencard and will be denied re-entry to the USA.
