Hello guys,

My husband got his visa and came here after 13 months of additional processing ater interview - a long ride, but its finally over. It has been exactly one month and he has gotten is welcome letter. I was wondering about the GC and SS card - should I go down to the office to get he SS for him, and does it require only showing the visa? What about the GC, will USCIS mail it to the home address (that he gave at POE) or will I have to call them to make sure it will be issued (IR-1 visa case)?

Thanks

Tammy

AP: Over 1 year.

Visa: Nov 2

US Entry: Nov 13, Alhamdulillah.

If he has got the Welcome letter then his Greencard should arrive in the mail in a few days. If he has not got his SSN he should go to the SSA office and apply for one, just take his passport with his IR1 visa in it and they can issue his SSN to him. You can not apply for him he needs to do it.

My husband recently received his Welcome Letter in the mail but we haven't received anything in regards to the SSN or GC yet. So today we went to the local SSA office and they looked him up in the system and said that it should already be in the mail. They printed out a temporary form (doesn't work for jobs, but does for opening bank accounts) and said if it hasn't arrived in 2 weeks for us to return to the office. We were in and out of the office (that is one mile away) in 10 minutes!
