Packet 3 Question

The petition was approved and has left the NVC and is expected to reach the Mumbai Embassy on Monday or Tuesday. My question is specifically for the packet 3. Can my wife download the packet 3 contents from the Mumbai Embassy website and submit to the Mumbai Embassy as soon as the case is received? Or does she will have to wait for the packet 3 forms to get to her via post? If you can please further advise on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. We are trying to aim for a January interview date and hence trying to see whatever we can do to help the process move faster. If the drop-off of packet 3 is possible, does she have to make an appointment?

Have the P3 forms filled out but wait until after the consulate mails the packet before mailing the prepared forms to them.

Calling DOS in the USA for status, DOS will let you know when P-3 has been mailed out.

Thanks YuandDan. Any Indians going through Mumbai embassy know if dropping off Packet 3 is a possibility? I'd think they allow it.

Can I download somewhere the forms and the checklist that the packet three contains? They sent me the packet 3 but its lost in the mail and I dont want to lose more time than I already have.

I believe I have read that someone was able to drop-off Packet 3 after it was received at Mumbai. Not sure if its a good thing to wait till embassy mails out Packet 3 or must wait situation. My wife doesn't live in mumbai so am planning to use the courier service instead of her going personally to drop-off Packet 3.

Actually, it's semi-confirmed by Mumbai Embassy that this is possible. They weren't clear in their response to my e-mail, but did ask my wife to download the P3 and prepare to be dropped off. They will accept it as soon as the case is in their systems. I am expecting the K3 application to reach there either today or tomorrow. I'll let you know where I stand.

To get the quicker interview and then convert the K-3 interview to CR-1 interview I will have to take the following steps, not necessarily in this order:

1. Get NOA2- C'mon already!

2. Complete K-3 process at Consulate by submitting Packet 3

3. Get K-3 interview scheduled

4. Complete CR-1 process at NVC by submitting Affidavit of Support and IV packages

5. Convert K-3 interview to CR-1 interview

6. Have interview

Is this correct?

After reviewing the Packet 3 requirements for K-3 and IV package requirements for the CR-1, It seems to me that to pursue CR-1 and K-3 simultaneously, we need to have two original/certified copies of the birth cert, marriage cert and police certs. Is this correct?

I am concerned because I only have one original/certified copy of each of these three, and I intend to submit them as part of the CR-1 process at the NVC. Thus I am not sure if I could respond to Packet 3 for the K-3 as I do not have extra copies of all these documents. Should I try to get other original/certified copies of these three so that I could respond to Packet 3?

Is responding to Packet 3 required for the embassy to schedule a K-3 interview? I am assuming it is but just want to be sure.

The packet itself doesn't require you to submit any documents besides the DS-230 Part I, DS-2001 and Applicant's Statement which is in the checklist. You need to include a certified copy of the passport and a picture attached to DS-230. Once this is submitted, they will send you packet 4, which has the interview date and instructions on what you need to submit to VFS IF you want to pursue the K3 visa. However, meanwhile, if your NVC process for CR1 is near to complete, then you do not need to submit packet 4. Simply request the embassy for the switch. Get your medical done as soon as you get the K3 interview letter. Go to VFS to give the courier fee for the CR1 and ignore packet four and fees for K3.

just found out the DHL actually picked up the package today from NVC, so I expect it in Mumbai by Thursday. I'll ask my wife to drop off packet 3 on Friday. Let's see what happens.

CJ - Did you get the NVC #rs assigned to both your 130 and 129. NVC automated system can't find my i129 if searched through EACXXXX but it did find my i130 searching the same way (EACxxx).

That's what they told me too.

If you understand this (And I know someone mentioned it before) Please explain to me What is Packet 3 and Packet 4. Better still, is this NVC Language or VJ Forum Language.

Although I know that my I-129f was forwarded to the Embassy. And that a packet has been sent from the Embassy to my husband. I have not received anything from NVC although they say they have generated the AOS bill and sent it to me. (for the I-130). Where can I find this Packet "this" and "that" language? I'll check the guides again just to be sure am not missing anything.

Packet 3 and 4 is embassy language. It applies in the event that documents for the interview are not going through the nvc. This means k-1, k-3 more specifically but in some cases cr-1/ir-1 as well. This packet 3 just tell you that your petition is approved and they tell you the documents that will be needed on interview day. you need to respond to this with the forms they asked you to fill out, usually a ds-156 for k-1/k-3 or ds-230 for cr-1/ir-1, and a signed statement confirming that you will be able to present all the documents and evidence they need.

Once packet 3 is received, embassy schedules interview and sends you packet 4 with instructions with the interview date and time, along with instructions on how to submit the requests docs b4 the interview.
