Should I send my passport as the original for supporting documentation?

I also posted in the July 08 filers but decided to post here as well for others who don't look at that thread. Any help is appreciated.

Next Saturday I'm going to see my SO. In the K1 guide its says to send your SO a complete copy of the packet with originals of all supporting documents. So when I see my SO, I plan on giving him the complete copy of our 129F packet. As supporting evidence of our relationship, I included copies of my passport stamps - proof that I'd been to France to see him. Do I really need to give my SO my passport just in case the CO asks for it? Does "originals of supporting evidence" refer to documents that establish identity like a birth certificate or a passport, if used as evidence of US citizenship? Or maybe the original of a divorce decree? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

as far as i understand so far from asking on here is that i (benificiary) do not need to take an original of my Fiances (petitoner) birthcertificate, however the originals of evidence of meeting stumps me. especially as right now i have had to renew my passport and i may not get the old one with my stamps in back. i still havent had the answer to that, because i always get the isn't london easier than everywhere else reply sorry.

If you'll be there for the interview, your SO can hand over your passport to indicate you're in town visiting. Otherwise, no don't mail your passport overseas. A copy will do.

I provided an "original" certified copy of my divorce decree.

Copies of everything.

DON'T send the divorce dercee in, you only have the one!

You will need the originals for the interview.

We photocopied every page of my passport and sent that too. Also, my birth cert. It's not asked for though, but to be safe....

And to second Pushbrk's post, ours where ALL original copies too that we sent in.

No, just previous divorces. You only provide marriage certificates if you are applying for a spousal visa.

If you look up the fiance(e) visa on your embassy website it will tell you the what documentation you need for the interview. On the UK one they mention marriage certificates but only if applicable. And they are not applicable to K-1. Good job really as Tom has nothing from his previous marriage except for his divorce decree.

The reason for sending marriage certificates from prior marriages is to document name changes. If you are a man who never had a name change, no need to include marriage certificates from prior marriages.

Women who have changed their names should bring documentation for the name changes. Often the best or easiest documentation is the marriage certificates.

Hence why she should also check the embassy website as it has a list of documentation to take.

Yes, but my answer is generic to all Consulates. You mentioned marriage certificates were only needed for spousal visas but they are also needed for female K1 applicants who have name changes due to previous marriage etc.
