Hi Guys, I have a similar question regarding an interview date at the Embassy in Jamaica. My approval letter said it expires on 12/19/08. I have express mailed the DS230 to the embassy and emailed them to scheduled an interview date, but have not heard from them yet. If there is a 3 month wait on dates, what am I going to do when my approval letter expires? Any ideas on how to speak to a live person at the Embassy?

Hey Girl,

I doubt your letter will expire before you get an interview date. I think you'll be fine even if it goes past the expiry date. When did you send the DS-230?

What is this expiration date i keep hearing about? Is this only for the K1 visas? Cause we dont get expiration dates with CR1. All it says is that if there has been no activity on your case for over a year while at NVC, NVC will cancel the case. Other than that....no expiration. I think that so long as you get your paperwork in you should be fine. The issue is the process not you slowing down the process. I dont know of many people who can get their case done faster than that date.

My fiance sent it via Air Pak on Oct. 3rd, Friday and they guaranteed it will be received by 5 p.m. that evening. Thanks for your reply.

Okay. It has to be logged in their system. Send them another e-mail again on Friday or Monday and this time put "2nd Request in the subject line" of the e-mail to the embassy. If the DS-230 is not logged they can't scheduled an interview.

I had the same issue with mine. I had called DOS about it and they said that date is actually the date that NVC has to get your file to the embassy for them to logged your file into the system. The expiration date doesn't really have anything to do with you.

No worries.

Thanks guys. I know this has been said many times, but I don't know what I would have done without this venue to get advice. I truly appreciate you all.

Shaunsgal, you and I are on a very similar timeline. They took forever with our cases at the California service center! Anyway they have received and entered our ds230 last week, and now they have sent me an email saying that there are no interview dates available, but I am hoping that I will hear about an interview date in the next couple of weeks. I hope your date comes soon too!

I hope so too. I am tired of postponing my wedding date. I have moved it from August to every month thereafter. I will be happy if it happens this year. I applied in Feb. and was very naive in thinking everything will be done by now. Anyway, hang in there? I will update you if I get an interview date. Are you thinking of going for the interview or will you let your fiance go alone. I am still deciding.

First of all, you really shouldn't make any certain wedding date until he has that visa in hand. Too many things can go wrong along the way. And I think we've seen them all.

Even if they don't happen to log that into the system by the expiration date, I have seen on here where they automatically renewed it. And, yes, it basically has nothing to do with you.

Hang in there. Your time will soon come.

I am going to go if I can (I am due to give birth to our son Jan 5th and can only fly until Dec 7th) and if I were you I would try to go if you can. I have read on here of them not approving visas and asking for further proof of relationship when the fiance is not present. Better safe than sorry...

Congratulations young lady! Are you working or able to stay at home and await your son's arrival. Unfortunately, I am unable to have any more children, so I live vicariously through everyone's pregnancy. LOL By the way, I think I will try and make it to the interview, but my main concern is to be able to fly back with him. He is more nervous about the hassle with flying, customs, etc. than by the interview. We will see.

I am working as a bar manager but am out right now because of chicken pox (horibble! I am so itchy and uncomfortable). I know what you are saying about wanting to fly back with him...my SO has never left Jamaica and not only will it be a harrowing experience for him to go through immigration and customs and flight changes alone, but I really want to have the experience with him. Well, I had to choose one or the other (if I even get the interview date in time!) and I decided that getting him the visa without any problems was the most important thing.

If only they would give it to him at the time of the interview!

Anyway, good luck. I hope you can both go to the interview AND fly back with him.

Oh, and i found (thanks to the advice of the wonderful people on this forum) that calling the Department of state is the best way to get updates on your case. You will be able to find out from them when your ds230 has been logged into the system and when your fiance is eligible for an interview and they will know when the interview has been scheduled before your fiance even receives the letter. I'm not sure if you knew all of this yet...I didn't know until last week.

The phone number is 202-663-1225

I did not go to the interview; but flew down to bring him back with me for that very reason.
