Hi,

My wife received two identical pages (I-512L, Authorization for Parole) in the mail today. Is this means her I131, APPLICATION FOR USCIS TRAVEL DOCUMENT has been approved and that she can travel abroad? On the I-512L page, the "Approved" box is checked, the "Conditions/comments" is not checked. At the bottom, on the left side is her photo, on the right side is a blank box (not stamped) above that it says "National Benefits Center Parole Stamp". But, above that, there is a rectangle in lighter grey ink that says "National Benefits Center".

1.) Why does she has two identical I-512L?

2.) Does she needs to carry both I-512L copies when we travel outside the U.S?

3.) We have many trips planned. Can she uses for numerous trips outside the U.S?

4.) Does she has to surrender the I-512L copy each trip she travels?

5.) What is the blank box on the bottom right side of the I-512L that says "National Benefits Center Parole Stamp" is used for? Why is it blank? What is the purpose of that box?

Thanks in advance!!

But, above that, there is a rectangle in lighter grey ink that says "National Benefits Center". Yes, this is her AP.

1.) Why does she has two identical I-512L?

2.) Does she needs to carry both I-512L copies when we travel outside the U.S?

The AP is a multiple entry document that is valid for one year. The first time you use it, you present both copies at the border along with your passport. The border authority will stamp both copies, which basically activates the AP. Ideally, they are supposed to keep one copy and return the other to you, but I have heard of individuals getting back both copies. The next time you use the AP you present the stamped copy as your proof of AP and I don't believe they need do anything more. You do need to make sure you don't use it after it has expired, so if you have trips planned later than that and you have not yet received your green card you will need to apply for a new AP.

5.) What is the blank box on the bottom right side of the I-512L that says "National Benefits Center Parole Stamp" is used for? Why is it blank? What is the purpose of that box?

That is where the border authority will stamp the AP the first time you use it to activate it.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello!

my husband and I have just received my AP and I was wondering if there is any stipulations for me to NOT use it! I really want to go and see my family but I really don't want to be stuck in Canada. Is there any instances where and when I should not use it. How many times is it good for?? It says multiple entry's but I have two pieces of paper. Is it for two entries or more??

My interview for my green card is scheduled for September but unfortunately I have to reschedule. Can I leave the country before my interview? Will we have any trouble at the border getting home???

Thanks I'm so confused about the whole process and your help is muchly appreciated!!

Angela, your questions are fair ones, and most are answered in the post just above yours. Unless you had an overstay on a previous trip to the U.S., you should be OK when using your AP.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Recently, a co-worker of mine received her I-512L, Authorization for Parole. But instead of the Approved box being check, the Conditions/comments box is check and alongside that is something about section 244.15 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. What does this mean? She is afraid of getting stcuk in El Salvador when she goes on vacation. Should she be afraid of this?

Is your friend seeking Temporary Protected Status? 8 CFR 244.15 deals with individuals who are adjusting as TPS applicants. Advance parole is permission to go abroad and seek reentry, so as long as there is not some other reason she is excludable (such as crimes), she should be ok.

Please note - you are asking about a situation that was posted in August, 2009 - 2 1/2 years ago. Whatever has happened in this situation has happened long ago.
