Maybe you can find a job working for cash, you know, like house cleaning. Of course it is still illegal but millions are doing the same in this country. I'm not suggesting this is the right thing to do but it is a possibility.

Despite what other VJs said, if your SSN stamped with WORK PERMIT then go ahead and find work even thought your visa expired after 90 days, and as long as your EAD or AOS are pending. No harm in doing so (k1 is allowed to work period).

if you got a Temp EAD on you passport at the POE and your i-94 is still valid YOU CAN WORK

if it's expired you can't you need to wait till you get the EAD CARD in the mail.

Okay this is where I don't understand... if your POE stamps EAD on arrival with k-1 visa, it is valid until marriage? ( of cos have to get the SSN to validate work ) the time of marriage ( with in the limit of the k-1 visa ) once we are married does this mean that from that date it is illegal for him to work until we Adjust status? what is the point to getting a job, or the POE EAD ?

A Temp EAD stamp on your I-94 is valid for 90 days, it does not end when you get married. If you have a temp EAD stamp then you can work upto the expiry date on the I-94 then you should stop work until you have a approved EAD that you applied for along with your AOS.

If you do not have a temp EAD stamp then you can not work until you have been approved for EAD that you filled for along with your AOS.

Can you work without an SSN?

We have the temp work stamp in the I-94. Will be getting married shortly, inchallah, and filing for AOS.

But because of a mix-up at JFK, SSA says it could take up to 8 weeks to verify my SO's information and issue the SSN... and of course, if there are any further mix-ups in the correspondence between SSA and USCIS, then the SSN could be denied outright.

Any thoughts?

How did you got a TEMP STAMP FOR I-94???? THE ONLY STAMP I HAVE IN MY I-94 is the DHS customs and boarder protection which is valid until SEPT. 16..... IS IT THE SAME???
