Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and Missouri, helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn't solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn't the Federal Government relocating Iowa & Missouri people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines and Winfield?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a 'vanilla' Iowa, because that's the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage, complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa & Missouri flooding ever again?

Amen, Where is Brad Pitt. I live less then a mile from those flooded areas. Why is there no celebrety help for them?

I don't think its reverse racism (or at least I don't have enough info to suspect it). I think its a case of people covering their behinds. We all remember Katrina. You can't tell me that in all this flooding there hasn't been any rooftop rescues or "looting". And I have yet to hear a single word mentioned about FEMAs response to the situation. I think they're trying to stay off the radar. Right now there is a hearing about whether or not FEMA knew the trailers they gave Katrina victims were contained with toxic levels of formaldehyde.

Besides the human factor, I would think the government would be responding quicker given the areas importance in food production.

Agreed - I would imagine that FEMA has upped its game somewhat after the failures in New Orleans, given the very public fallout from that.

I would also imagine that the population density was greater in New Orleans than it is the Midwest. People tend to notice a major disaster in a major city more than they do in semi-rural areas.

I bet if this was about blacks in New Orleans sixer you would be howling on here! There should be outrage, how would you like water in your home and community like these people got and are being forgotten and not talked about. Another thing I would like to point out, you do not see these white people in Iowa or Missouri going out and robbing, stealing or killing each other unlike what the blacks all did in New Orleans. Wonder why that is?

Interesting topic and one I never really thought of even though I live very near the disaster areas.

Maybe one reason the midwest takes it in stride is because this is not the first time, nor the last time we will flood. Ironically, when I think back to the worst flooding I can remember, we still didn't have the celebrities or the president come tour or anything. The cities of Missouri banded together to help one another in sand bagging, rescuing, moving whole towns, and opening their homes in order to help one another. FEMA stepped in at the end.

And, no, I never hear of any rioting or looting and I hear very little complaining about any of it.
