haha I changed my last name because his last name was way more fun than mine. now I have two first names (last name could be a first name for a person). I had a prof say "ooooh you have two first names for your name. i know about girls like you." #######?

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

I changed my last name because I'd been married once already. I sure didn't want to keep that name. I wasn't all concerned about keeping my maiden name the first time because I have two older brothers so the name will be carried on. I didn't even keep my maiden name as my middle name as some women do. I just dropped it all together.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

I'm not sure what I want to do. Currently I'm Laura Gladwin but I could become Laura Baker. I like my current surname as it's not very common but I also like the sound of Laura Baker. Decisions decisions.

I kept my name. :)

It's been interesting to see, however, how some people assumed I would change it.

I changed my lastname to his recently, not at first. I like this new name as I think it suits me well. Plus I am pregnant and want our baby to have the same name as me and my husband. :-)

I changed my name....I didn't even consider keeping my maiden name.

I want to change my name... no questions about it.

I will still have my family with or without their name!

I am just about to go through the whole SSN and AOS thing and I'm not 100% sure how I do this.. where do I change my name.. can I do it at the same time as I file for all of this? And if so is it just to put his name as lastname and attach a copy of the marrage license?

Have a good one everyone!

I am so glad that there are so many that have done this process before me.. I don't feel as lonley!! :D

Change your name with Social Security then it's easier to change other documents. Because of this, many women decide to get their SSN AFTER marriage, otherwise you'll have to get it in your maiden name, then change it again once you get married. Just show your marriage certificate.

When you apply for AOS use your married name - that's what will appear on your GC. You can then change your passport, credit cards, bank accounts, etc etc.

I got married 14 months ago and everything has been changed but my Delta skymiles...I need to get on that...

I remember when I was a little girl, I would take my first name and pair it up with boys last names to see if it would jive. If it didn't, the boy was totally off the list of potential husbands... ok that was when I was like 5 or 7. But I did believe that women that didn't change their to their husbands were trying to prove something to the world, and I just called them stupid feminists.

Guess what, I got married, and I didn't change my name, and I'm not a stupid feminist :) I think I will eventually change my name later on, like when a baby will be on the way, so we don't have a mess with names. But for the time being, I'm ok as it is. I do get annoyed when people send Christmas cards addressed to Mr & Mrs (husbands last name) because I feel like a piece of me is gone then... and makes me not want to change it at all later on. Decisions, decisions.

I guess it would depend on the husband. Mine didn't want me or our daughter to have his last name, so I kept mine and we gave our daughter mine out of respect for him and the fact that I really, really, really don't care that much.

After a lot of thinking I changed my last names (we luvly Mexicans have 2 of them); because I did not want to have to deal with having them misspelled all the time; or if we happen to reproduce, do not want the kiddos to go around responding to the usual idiotic "where are you from?" Reason 2: while in Canada, I would send THE SAME RESUME with both names to job openings, and the 'married girl' got a sh1tload of interviews while the 'single gal' did not.... coincidence?????

Mind you, my parents were not pleased.... but they understood after some time of talking to them. After all, I know who I am
