Birth Certificate translation for AOS

Hello. A few days ago, I married my American husband. Now, I am getting ready for AOS.

Now, I got my birth certificate from Japan before I entered the US with K1. I translated by myself and went to banks to be notarized. Well, first of all, a lot of banks do not allow me to open an account until I get my state ID which will take more than 2 weeks. Do I really need to notarize my birth certificate translation? I got a BA from American university and I know both Japanese and English. Am I going to get RFE if I do not notarize my birth certificate? Please help me.

You need a certified translation, not notarization.

I didn't notarize mine and I did it myself as well. I put the certificate saying that I am fluent in both langauges at the end.

So far no RFE, I'll see if they have any issues with it at the interview this month, but I doubt it.

You just need certified translation.

Certified translation is required. But it is not supposed to be translated by yourself. Some received RFE for this. I just asked a friend of mine to sign it. (actually, I translated... ) You can find translation certification template in VJ guide, USCIS web site.

I have a question related to this topic: does the translation have to be certified in the U.S. or I could try to get a certified translation in Russia and use it?

I've still got about a week to do that before my honey and I fly home together

You can get it in Russia if you can find somebody fluent both English & Russian. I did it in Japan. Many people do that without problem.

It doesn't matter if it's certified in the US or Russia, but it should be done by somebody else to avoid the delay.
