Saudi Arabia has the largest number of Filipino workers — 1,019,577 — outside the Philippines. In 2006 alone, the Kingdom recruited more than 223,000 workers from the Philippines and their numbers are still increasing.

An odd combination of Filipinos who seem more outwardly Christian (than most Christianized nations) living in the heartland of Islam. The article is Saudi so I didn't expect them to mention that fact.

Nobody here can think of a life without Filipinos, who make up around 20 percent of the world’s seafarers. There are 1.2 million Filipino sailors.

When speaking about the Philippines, we should not forget Filipino nurses. They are some 23 percent of the world’s total number of nurses. The Philippines is home to over 190 accredited nursing colleges and institutes, from which some 9,000 nurses graduate each year. Many of them work abroad in countries such as the US, the UK, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Singapore.

I knew there were a lot of Filipino nurses but 23% of the world's total number of nurses is impressive.

Kind of reminds me of the movie "A Day Without a Mexican".

Didn't see that movie but the day when that happened to show the importance of Mexican workers in America, nobody noticed their absence for the most part. Another difference- the Saudi government actively recruits Filipino workers and has a lot of control over them. By contrast, the U.S. has little control over the illegal immigration mess and mass deportations are probably impossible politically.

thanks for sharing the article . I feel proud after reading it because I have a sister who is a nurse in London and a brother working in Saudi Arabia. I have a high regard on Pinoys who continue to show the world that we are hardworking, kindhearted, God-fearing and family oriented people. Mabuhay!!!

nice article! Im quite impressed how he noticed and realized how amazing Filipino works. Filipino were compassionate, smart, and can work with less supervision. I coud say go go Pinoy! Hataw Pinoy!
