POLICE CERTIFICATE FROM RCMP (OTTOWA)

does anyone know how long the wait is to recieve a finger print criminal records check or police certificate back from RCMP ottawa?

A fingerprint based police certificate is required only if you have a criminal record. If you do not have a criminal record, you can get a named based police certificate from your local RCMP detachment in most of Canada, the Commissionaires in the GTA, or from your local Police Service if the following conditions are met :

1) They use the RCMP CPIC Criminal Database

2) It states that it was based on a CPIC Canada Wide Search.

If you do have a criminal record and you require sending fingerprints to Ottawa, it is currently taking from 8 to 12 weeks to get it back.

They must hav sped up, at 1 time last yr it was up to a 6 month wait for fingerprinting

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Ok, so it is taking 8-12 weeks for the certified police certificate. (and yes, because of a record many years ago we do need it) At what part of this process do we need it? We are currently waiting to receive our packet 3 and was wondering if we need this before we can send it back in. Also, can somebody tell me exactly what is in packt 3 so we can be prepared when it comes?

Sorry I gave you the wrong info when you asked me about police certificates a few days ago. I didn't think you were doing the fingerprints. I thought you only needed the name check. :blush:

We are currently waiting to receive our packet 3 and was wondering if we need this before we can send it back in. Also, can somebody tell me exactly what is in packt 3 so we can be prepared when it comes?

Order the Police Cert now... You cannot send in The Checklist from Packet 3 until you get it...They won't schedule the interview until they receive the Checklist...

Just curious, how did you find out that current processing is 8-12 weeks?

Ancedotal evidence from a few people that have gotten them in the last few months on a couple of other sites and on here... If you give them an excuse that you need them fast for a specific purpose, they're more prone to get them done quicker...

We sent off for the record today and also sent the DS230 parts 1 and 2 back to Montreal. We didnt request for them to expedite it (the record check) for any specific reason. Montreal instructed us to send back ONLY the checklist when we have all of the required forms to bring to the interview. So knowing that it is taking about 3 months for Montreal to schedule interviews I wonder when it would be safe to send back the checklist.

does anyone know if there is any way to let them know after it has been sent in that you need it quickly for a specific purpose? i am not even sure that the one form sent in was labeled properly. i think it said us visa, but i guess it should have said us waiver???? any suggestions???

Hi,

just wanted to help out since this site has been great in providing info for my K1 process.

We needed the RCMP fingerprint check (yes, the Ottawa one) since my fiancee is no longer living in Canada. The official responses i have received through email and telephone calls with the RCMP is that it takes 150 days.

However, we were able to receive ours in about 10 weeks. I think the RCMP is doing their best, and i know they must be overwhelmed with the amount of fingerprint requests they get every week (Visas, Work, Immigration, Study Permits, etc). During my conversations with them, they have been extreme cordial and understanding, which is very difficult sometimes if you ever experienced working in customer service.

Please be patient with them, as i could tell they are working very hard to satisfy everyone's requests.

In Ottawa it took me about 3 months to get my finger prints done. I didn't realize right away that all I needed was the name check. Name check took me 10 minutes to get and the building was infront of my house lol.
