Traveling with AP - Name on AP different than Passport

Hey guys,

My wife got her AP in the mail today, and there is a slight chance we will be using it to go back to Canada to visit her father (even though our interview is on 2/12).

The AP papers have her married name on them, but her passport and all other ID still has her maiden name. Are we OK if we bring along our marriage license as proof of her name change? Both the AP and her passport have a photo of her.

Also, I think I heard that she can get her passport name changed at the Canadian Consulate in the US. Anyone know if that is true? Thanks!

You can go to the trouble of getting name change in passport, or you can just leav it as is, you book any airfare using passport name, and many carry a copy of marriage cert to show how name changed from name in passport and on the AP doc or Green-card if the question comes up.

We just came back from visiting Canada, No problems with different name on green-card and passport.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Really should not be much different than travelling on greencard with a different name... make sure you always have in your possession the document (in many cases marriage certificate) that shows the legal name change.

One of the services typically provided by consulates that are located in foreign countries is to assist there citizens with document changes and renewals.... So yes.... the consulate of Canada is there to assist

I will be in the same situation as you when my lucky day comes and I get my AP! Anyway, being proactive I called the Canadian consulate nearest me (Chicago) and was informed that they no longer stamp the passport indicating a name change in the observations section and I would need to apply for a whole new passport. The consulate said that it is fine to travel with the marriage license and it should not be a problem. I plan on applying for a new passport when I go back to visit this summer, I am hopeful I will have AP by then!!

Soory I ahould say, get everything together to apply for my passport renewal, like photos (which are different dimensions than the US ones and they are really picky about them so where better to get them taken than in Canada, guarantor signature, etc) and mail it all off once I am back in the USA.

Hello everyone. I have a relevant question.

My husband booked my ticket (to travel back to Greece and visit my family)

in my married name (the name that appears on AP and marriage certificate)

while on my passport there is my maiden name.

Do you think I'll have a problem with the airlines?

We fly tomorrow morning and I'm freaking out right now!

:crying:

Yes, I have Montana ID card with my picture on and my married name and an EAD, marriage certificate.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before...Has anyone had a bad experience with airlines if they name doesn't match between tickets and passport?

I really feel so bad right now, I don't want to go to the airport tomorrow and be denied to fly out...!

This could cause you unnecssary stress at the airport. Get the airline to do a name correction - mention the word change and they'll wanna charge you $100!!

Another question (do they ever stop?)

When I am re-entering which I-94 do I fill? The white sheet or the green one?

and if I fill in the white one what am I supposed to write where it asks for

City where visa was issued & Date Issued?

It is confusing to me cause my K-1 visa has expired & I'm pending for AOS..

I really hope I won't have a problem cause I have kept my married name as a middle name...Hopefully they will see that it's not two completely different names and with the Montana ID and marriage certificate it won't be an issue... :(

thanks for the quick reply. I can always count on this forum to help me out with my fears.

Green is for those on the visa waiver program.... White is for other non-immigrant visitors... I don't know the true answer but I would imagine that it is neither.... but if in doubt the white one
