"Undelivered" green card

Hi,

I applied for a green card, on a family-based petition through my husband. The whole process actually went quite smoothly. I had my interview on Jan. 19, 2007 and was told that my application had been approved. I was also given a letter stating that my application had been approved and that a green card would be mailed to me in 2 weeks to 2 months. Yesterday, I checked the status of my application online at the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website (www.uscis.gov) and it states the following:

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Undeliverable document filed.

On February 8, 2007, the post office returned your document as undeliverable. Please call 1-800-375-5283 to update the mailing address.

Please note that I have NOT moved—I have been living at my current address for the past two years. Also, I have received everything else that the USCIS has mailed me throughout this entire process including interview date letters, finger printing letter, etc. Also, I rechecked the address that USCIS has on file for me and it is the correct one. I do not understand what could have gone wrong. My name is on the doorbell next to the mailbox (slot in door).

I need to travel out of the country in a few weeks. I went to the local USCIS office this morning but they told me that they do not stamp passports anymore and that I will just have to wait for my green card in the mail. They told me that it could take 30 days or more to have them remail it and there is no guarantee that it will not be “undeliverable” again. I have also read some horror stories on the internet about people never receiving their green cards in the mail and then having to start the process over again or file for a “lost/stolen” card.

What should I do? The woman at USCIS said I could go on my trip and have the greencard mailed to be by someone here once it arrives but that sounds too risky. What if it never arrives?

Help! Is anybody else in a similar situation?

Hi, that happened to me for EAD biometrics appt notice, i recommend you call 0-800 first and if is not effective, schedule an infopass appt. at uscis website. Talk to your mailman as well..i assume you have your name in your mailbox?

(well, when i had the undelivered problem, called the 0-800 several times and each time they said different things with no results, so i went to infopass and everything went fast after that).

Best wishes

My Green Card was returned also the first time they sent it.

I called the 800 number and she assured me they had my correct address.

I received my Green Card the next week in my mailbox.

They told me to make sure my name was on the mail box and the numbers for my street address where on it as well. Which they were. So not sure why they returned it the first time.

I hope you receive yours soon
