Someone just told me they were approved for his EAD without his biometrics. Is this normal?

BTW: He applied for it before he got married and now his 90 days expires next week. So that means he can't work, right?

Normal if they already did biometrics for something else like AOS or for K-1 before AOS, is treated like temp EAD like stamp from some POE.

And yes if EAD is applied for before AOS it is tied to the I-94 expiration date, bad for K-1 good for K-3, this is why in the guides they say dont bother with EAD before filing for AOS for K-1's

No, I said he sent the EAD before he got married.

He just mailed out the AOS paperwork out yesterday - so no fingerprinting for that. So, he never did any biometrics, but had his EAD approved.

Now the EAD expires in 90 days in this case - right?

Bora Bora,

He may be approved but he doesn't have his EAD, does he.

I don't know. He just said yesterday that he saw on-line he was approved - but no card (yet).

What does that mean?

Then I was thinking it is possible to have the EAD w/out biometrics because that is what happens to people when they arrive in JFK, right?

Bora Bora,

EAD's come in 2 flavors - a stamp placed on the I-94 exit document at a POE and an ID card issued by the USCIS.

The ID card has a photo and a fingerprint on it. Without having gone to a biometrics appointment for the photo and fingerprint there can be no card.

Ok Yodrak - thanks. That is what I thought.

This guy told me today that the card hasn't arrived in the mail (still don't know if he knows what he's talking about). But we'll see....

Bora Bora: When I got my OPT (Optional Practical Training) EAD I didn't have a biometrics appointment either and no fingerprints were taken. Maybe there are different rules for EADs issued under different visas; I just wanted to share that I didn't get my fingerprints taken either. They took a couple of fingerprints when I entered the country as an F1 student...but my EAD doesn't show a fingerprint.

They do take fingerprints for an OPT EAD. I think they didn't start doing it until recently, though, so you may have gotten yours before they changed the procedures. But I'm not sure - I never applied for OPT myself.
