A medical examination is mandatory for both Refugees and Immigrants who are willing to go to the U.S. All members of your family who intend to apply for their immigrant visas at this time must have a medical examination for blood tests for AIDS and venereal diseases in addition to chest X-ray. This includes all children, regardless of age.

You should arrange to undergo your medical examination at the hospitals indicated below. Medical examinations conducted at other hospitals will not be accepted. You must go to one of the hospitals indicated below. Also, you have to go the hospital to have your examination earlier than your visa interview appointment date. Each person who is examined must bring four photographs of himself, your passport and a copy of it to give to the examining physician. Also, if you had any vaccinations been taken lately then I would advise you to bring the vaccination certificates with you to them at the hospital or you will get vaccinated again. They may ask for your case number that was sent to you by the US embassy in their letter to you. Take that with you just in case.

** Children under 14 years of age do not need to present a chest X-ray unless the examining physician decides that it is necessary.

They said a week before the interview, but I doubt it. Just get your examinations done and mail it with the required documents.

The medical exam is good one year from the date of the exam itself.

I think so, but to be sure I think we'd need a definitive answer on exactly how long the medical is good for. Seems like it differs depending on the embassy. Your timeline is very similar to mine so I'm thinking you'll get the packet 3 soon, though who knows since Deemabrouk got approved way before us and her husband still hasn't received his.

I think the confusion is because thre are two different timelines right? One is how long is the medical good for in the eyes of the consulate nd how long is it good for USCIS? USCIS accepts the medical for one year for AOS purposes. Hope that gives some help in tyring to decide when to do the medical.

I don't get why everyone is in a hurry to have their husbands get their medical. It only takes a couple days to complete. It's really not going to make the process go any faster if you get the medical done before the packet 3 arrives.

Well for me I want everything done as quickly as possible since lord knows we'll be on AP forever. I figure at least we will have done our part quickly so as not to delay things even further. That is me though, but I'm sure others might have the same reasoning.

Getting his medical done ahead of time will not lessen AP times. So you're saving a day...maybe. What happens when at the end they request the movement certificate? It seems like those can't be done ahead of time. You'll be held up somewhere, sometime.

Posted

be careful for those of you applying for K1 (maybe K3 as well) that if you decide to get everything pre-scheduled your medical can expire while you are on AP/AR and will need to get a new one. Likewise you can even be required to get a new one to Adjust status. Nothing is going to go perfectly, get things done that you can get done ahead of time, but this - the medical, i dont see a benefit of doing so.
