Checked BaggageEconomy Class Free Baggage Acceptance

[*]2 Checked Bags: Maximum 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (157 cm)

Hey Paul and Kath, just wanted to add a comment about the Continental baggage limits, etc having just flown with them. Although you get to take 2 suitcases 32kg on international flights...yeah i got a shock when i checked in with continental to fly to CO and found out the limit was 23kgs per suitcase. Anyway, i had to pay for the extra weight but it wasn't too bad. They charge $25 USD per suitcase. I think it was worth it to be able to bring so much stuff with me.

Thanks again everyone for your kind thoughts...I can only say that I am so so happy to be in the USA with my hunny! Hey it's great to see so many newbies in here too!!! Would be nice to get a list going of aussies leaving for the USA and approx when so we can keep track now there is so many of us.

Well, I got my vegimite that my work gave me in my farewell present confiscated at customs... apparently it was too big so I bought a tube duty free just before I left..mind you getting decent bread to spread it on is proving difficult. Have been eating sourdough i think that's the closest to aussie bread.

Well...I guess I will be on here quite a bit for awhile...my body clock is so out of wack.

Good luck with starting work tomorrow Kath....I think you will have a great time! :star:

Well I better go and get this wedding organised.... :D

Take care

Hey there fellow Aussies,

Has anyone been examined by Dr Okraglik and can share their experience?

I just made an appointment with him as the only other doctor in Melbourne was busy until May 20. I couldn't believe that I had to pay a $100 deposit over the phone for my appoinment!!

Also, my case has was fowarded to SYD yesterday. When will they send me the paperwork as my medical and fingerprint check are within the next 14 days?

Thanks everyone!

Hi Kath,

Thanks for the reply!

All up, it was just under $300 for the medical. It was either $290 or $299, I called from California and the line kept breaking up.

I am currently in California with my husband and our son but will be flying back to MEL next week. :(

I was hoping for an interview in the first half of June, but I am worried they will be overly busy trying to get all visa related work completed before they shut down for the APEC meeting.

hi sharyna yeah always something to put a bump in the road damm meetings ... lol

hollywood i reckon you just might get everything in the mail by the time you have your appointment ...they need your case number ...it is put on your medical forms mate... dont know if you have read about it or not.. but if you havent already done so .. get some blood tests to see what you are ammuned to ...get it done by your local doctor and put on medicare.. it saves heaps of money for you .. but dont forget to take the results to the medical and the receipts off the pathologist so the doctor can enter it into the vaccination sheet for you..

Hi Sharyna,

Yes you can get blood tests done by your local G.P.

Just ask him to do a complete bloodwork up and,

ask him to do Immunization checks.

ask for REUSULTS FOR MMR = MEASLES , MUMPS + RUBELLA

HIV , SYPHILIS , TB ,

Basically ask him to check immunities for anything needed as above.

my bloodwork came back and it was 8 pages.. omg.

they checked my blood group (ask for that as well)

my cholesterol level, prostate check as well...

so what I am saying is ask your G.P. for a full blood work,

get him to take a extra vial of blood to do the complete check.

The only Vacination I needed was for Tetnus which I had,

August last year 06.

Take Medicare card and as Kath mentioned it's cheaper with it.

Results will take prolly a week to recieve.

Make a appointment say.. 10 days after bloodwork taken,

to get him to give you the printed out results.

And if any Vaccinations are needed might as well get him/her to do it.

Yes apply for your National Police Clearance as well as Fingerprints.

Below is the N.S.W. WEBSITE FOR ABOVE

http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/

Q: Which application form should I use?A. Individuals requiring a National Criminal History Record Check forgeneral employment, licensing, visa and adoption purposes should completeForm P799 Application for a National Criminal History Record Check (Standard disclosure). Convictions considered spent under state and federal legislation will not be disclosed.

Individuals requiring a National Criminal History Record Check for a category of employment or purpose for which there is an exemption from the NSW Criminal Records Act 1991 should use Form P800 Application for a National Criminal History Record Check (Full disclosure). Allconvictions (including those considered spent) will be disclosed. Persons seeking employment as a teacher or teachers aide in another country should use Form P800.

http://www.police.nsw.gov.au/about_us/stru...formation/forms

Q: How much does a National Criminal History Record Check cost?

A: NCHRC fees at March 1, 2006 are:

  • name and date of birth check: $52
  • name, date of birth and fingerprint check: $175
  • BEST TO TAKE CASH WITH YOU AS THEY DON'T HAVE ATM'S IN THERE LOL

Q: What are acceptable types of identification?

A: Applicants must provide three (3) types of acceptable identification from the list below to prove their identity when applying for a National Criminal History Record Check . Identification must originals, not be expired and should include at least one type of photographic ID and identification that contains a signature and date of birth. Applicants must record in the space provided in the application form the identification type (eg Medicare card) and number (if applicable).

Acceptable types of identification are:

  • Current passport
  • Current drivers licence
  • Birth Certificate
  • Citizenship Certificate
  • Certificate of Marriage or Change of Name
  • Government issued identity card
  • Private health care fund card
  • Medicare card

hi sharyna

i would wait until you got approved to anything like that mate...the medical and police check is valid for 1 year.. i know its a long time but...when you arrive here and get married unforseen circumstances might hold you off putting your AOS pettition through if you get my drift...others might disagree but at least you know you have to get blood tests done and for your police check it is a national police check..

check out the embassey info about all sort of things like this..

where you from ...

i hope i havent put a damper on anything you wanted to do its just my thoughts on the subject mate...
