I-94 Lost And Not By Me!

Well...so here I am. I arrived here on February 5, and got married on March 3. So far, those are practically the only things that have gone right so far!

I posted in another thread about my experience at the Peace Bridge on February 5. The Border Officer first says "I haven't done this in a while" and then tried to make me look like an idiot when in fact she was giving very wrong information and potentially very troublesome information had I not known my facts, that could get me deported. Not a happy time.

So anyway, fast forward to February 26, I was thinking to myself, 'ok it's been 3 weeks, I should be in the system' so I went to apply for a Social Security Number. I had pre-filled out the paperwork, and had all of the proper identification, but they said I wasn't there and would have to verify manually. Ok, not a problem. So about a week later I got paperwork from SSA saying that 1) I didn't provide the proper paperwork, and 2) DHS couldn't verify my information. I was not happy. So two days later I went back to the SSA office in Winchester, VA to find out what was going on. The lady there was very helpful, and said, "well, let's try it again"....and AGAIN I wasn't found in the SAVE system. This began to worry me as it had been 5 weeks since I came to Virginia. She re-submitted the paperwork and gave me the infamous 1-800 number for USCIS.

I called USCIS to find out what was going on (it took me 20minutes to talk to an actual person) and in less than a minute she tells me that I have to make an InfoPass appointment. So I did that, with the next available interview time a week later.

I go to the interview with my husband who was nice enough to miss a bit of work to take me there. I talk to the lady who tells me that the people at Buffalo did something wrong. Then it sounded like she was telling me I would have to go BACK to Buffalo (I misheard her). No.....I don't have to go to Buffalo....I have to go to the Dulles Airport and get them to do something.

I was REALLY NOT HAPPY at this point. First off, she's not even sure WHY I'm not in the system, and now I feel like I'm on a wild goose hunt. Thankfully, the USCIS Office, Dulles Airport and my husband's work aren't that far away from each other.

So, off to Dulles. We get there, as information where Customs and Immigration is, and we are told to pick up the red phone and they will help you. Well, thankfully I didn't have to pick it up, someone was outside and willing to help.

So, it turns out that either Buffalo screwed up somehow and didn't send in the top half of my I-94 to Kentucky to be imputted into the system, or it got lost.

The Officer at Dulles had me re-fill out an I-94 and backdated it, and put my I-94 number on the top with an explanation for Kentucky, and HE Sent it there for me. Now I have to wait another 2 weeks before anything will happen because it's like starting over again.

He was nice enough to give me his name and phone number to call him back in 2 weeks and he would personally look in the system to see if I'm there.

What a wild ride though, and I'm not very impressed.

And filling out the AOS paperwork hasn't been fun either because I'm working from a library computer.

Whew, that felt good to get off my chest...been wanting to share that all with you!

Hopefully I didn't get lost in the paper shuffle again, and all will be well.......

I'll let you know what happens.

Krystin
