My computer got deadly virus/worm. It pissed me off. What should I do?

Something maybe all of you'd like...

If you get a problem like that, try going to http://housecall.trendmicro.com

The online scanner that Trend offers is great and actually cleans the virus/worm etc.., compared to many of the online scanners just telling you "You have a virus, buy our program".

If you chat on YM with people in the Philippines, be very aware. There are numerous Yahoo Messenger attached viruses running rampant there. I have fixed several PC's remotely, using LogMeIn to access their PC's.

If it's going to be, it's up to me!

use system restore to restore to a point before you installed the virus.

Good advice and it really works well. You should look into getting yourself some anti-virus software. Good luck

just ran across this one, for any on a laptop and at an airport:

Avoid Free Wi-Fi Scams in Airports

The next time you're at an airport looking for a wireless hot spot, and you see one called "Free Wi-Fi" or a similar name, beware - you may end up being victimized by the latest hot-spot scam hitting airports across the country. Hackers are tricking people into thinking they are connecting to a "free" connection by configuring their PC to allow others to access the Internet through their shared connection. Then they can retrieve information from your PC. However there is an easy way to identify these scam connections if you know what to look for. Instead of appearing as a "wireless network" (or infrastructure) they appear as a "computer-to-computer" or an ad-hoc connection. Play it safe, and avoid these types of connections

As an FYI to everyone who has chat friends from the Philippines... Internet cafes are very popular there and I've found that some of the cafes aren't administered (protected) very well. I used to get Yahoo instant messages from chat friends including links all the time. The person sending them doesn't know. I usually replied telling them to get their system looked at or inform the cafe that they have a problem.

Word of advice: Use Firefox or Opera instead of Internet Explorer to browse the internet.

that sounds like a virus i read about that specifically targets instant messenger services. best thing to do - if sent a link, ask the other person if they sent a link. if they didn't, then their computer is infected with that virus. and going to that link will infect the recipient's computer.

Yep... I usually send them an Email and return chat message to let them know their computer is infected or the cafe's computer is infected.

As far as going to the links I definitely don't do it on my Windows system at home but they can't infect any of my Ubuntu machines. ;):P

Theres a free antivirus software out there, I've been using AVG anti Virus for awhile, so far so good, it will do a complete scan of your system, you can download it at

A quick head's up on what many consider to be the best anti-virus solution available. You can get Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6 for Free or $25 (after rebates). Original cost is $50. There's a $25 rebate available to everyone. However, if you're upgrading from a previous version (brand doesn't matter) you'll get another $25 off. Great price for the best AV out there...
