Quake off Taiwan disrupts communications

A strong earthquake off Taiwan's southern coast damaged undersea cables, disrupting phone and Internet service Wednesday in much of Taiwan, China and Japan.

Repairing the cables could take three weeks, but the situation will improve daily, said Lin Jen-hung, vice general manager of Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan's largest phone company.

The quake damaged two of the seven undersea cables near Taiwan used by several countries to route calls and Internet traffic, Chunghwa said. Crews fixing the cables would have to pull them up and transfer them to a ship for repair, the company said.

The damage to the two lines, located in the south, cut off 50 percent to 60 percent of Chunghwa's overall telephone capacity, the company said. Most severely affected were connections to China, Japan and Southeast Asian countries, it said.

The company also lost 60 percent of its telephone service to the U.S.

I hope this kills off the mail order bride business to Phillipines, which remains one of the worst national tragedies in recent years, contributing to American women not being able to get partners due to these Fillipa women that no one knows whether they were born male or female, given that sex changes are so cheap there.

####### are you talking about? You somehow twist an earthquake in Taiwan cutting off internet service in Asia into a personal agenda against Philippine women. I'll give you some credit though. You made an amazing amount of incorrect and racist statements in a single run-on sentence. You should be banned.

You might not think you're bigoted but your posts clearly indicate otherwise.

A heart attack? Right. Don't give yourself too much credit. I couldn't possibly care less about you or anyone who thinks like you do. That said, I will not ignore your ignorant bigoted statements about my wife's nationality.

It happened on 12/26. My wife's cell phone service is working but her land line (PLDT) is down. She's got internet access but she's unable to reach some websites and YahooIM isn't working. Skype is working though. :) I would assume the unreachable sites are located in the areas that are without internet service now.

Here's a few clues for you...

1. Your opinions are not fact.

2. You obviously do have something against Filipinos as you've made several bigoted statements about Filipinas here and in other threads on this site.

3. I'm happily married to a Filipina and I have several friends who are also happily married to Filipinas.

4. It's spelled 'Filipino'. If you're going to slander someone at least get it right.

I have nothing against fillipinos, I just brought the facts as they are, thank you. Unless you have a problem with certain facts, please dont blame me for your marrying a fillipino.
