And what, exactly, would that be? Nail-job, hair-do, and bing-bling rim stamps on top of the food stamp program? Do you know how mad it makes me when I see these $200.00 hair-do, $50.00 nail-job gals pay for their groceries with food stamps to then carry them to the vehicle with fcuking $5,000.00 set of wheels and $2,500.00 stereo? I'm sorry but there ain't a first fcuking thing any institution can do to bury that sick set of priorities.

Funny, the sentence that preceded the one you bolded, "The only ones that escape the trap are those who have educated parents and instill into their sons and daughters the need to get a good education." supports my point, which is that families are stuck in cycles and we have to do something as a society to bring as many people into the "people with educated parents" category.

I don't know if we have to do anything, Alex. We just have to make sure the opportunities

are there for those who want them..... and if they don't, well, it's their loss.

Actually, there is one thing we could do. We could reform the school system to find a better

way to pay for our public schools. All public schools should get equal funding from the state,

rather than being funded through the archaic property tax which results in a very unequal

distribution of educational opportunity. Communities that have a lot of property wealth

clearly have more funding for their local schools than those that don't. This, in turn, drives up

the property values in the top-performing school districts even further meaning that only

affluent families can afford to live there.

the paying for schools from property tax DEFINETLY needs to be reformed. There has to be a better, and more equitable way to properly finance our schools.

Wonder if people caught this story yesterday:

"Azzam the American." (Adam Gadahn)

The speaker in the new video was identified as Azzam the American and appeared in the video dressed in a turban and seated in front of a computer.

Gadahn is believed by US authorities to be running al-Qaeda's propaganda operation.

He is thought to have appeared with his face covered in a 2004 video shown by ABC News in which the speaker threatened al-Qaeda attacks.

"To Americans and the rest of Christendom we say, either repent [your] misguided ways and enter into the light of truth or keep your poison to yourself," he said in English on the new tape.

Wouldn't that be the ticket! The only way I was able to get a raise (no thanks to Perdue) was for the county to increase property taxes. Believe me, a lot of people already think educators ask too much of its taxpayers. Not so. If not for teachers their precious child (or children) would not have an education that could someday lead them to become a college graduate. We have to have fundraisers to pay for things like the agendas the kids use on a daily basis...playground equipment that they play on when they have recess...things like that.

Whatever happened to education being one of the most important things for our children? And I mean ALL children...regardless of their race or ethnicity? I for one want each child I come in contact with to succeed and learn.

Teaching is the essential profession...the one that makes ALL other professions possible - David Haselkorn

Lisa was saying she thought it was wrong for the school to keep whites out, and I was simply letting her know that it was not, in fact, a rule of theirs to limit the student body to blacks-only. It was just who decided to go to the black-culture-centric school. What I thought it was indicative of was the fact that whites are not complaining here, and nobody is upset that their white child cannot attend this black school. Hence, it seems clear that limiting a school to whites is a VERY DIFFERENT situation than limiting a school to all blacks.
NO! The guys who run the North Mpls public schools, and the principal at Mpls North, are really [siz=6]dedicated educators [/size]who have done some innovative things. Especially at the elementary school level. And that has helped. (One thing was making an all-black elementary school, which, while controversial, really raised test scores and kept its graduates in school longer.)

BUT Parents with no education, children who don't value education, who become parents with no education, etc. etc. etc. is a cycle that perpetuates itself (ok, as all cycles do). Hence we have these measures like AA to stop having whole ethnic groups disproportionately impoverished.

How do we bust a perceived defeatist attitude in the black community? You're right, it's got to come from the black community. But busting those cycles, something greater society can have a part in, would be a step in the right direction, IMO.

It would be nice if someone actually black commented on this thread, btw.

Slice the semantics any way you want....according to you, it was CONTROVESIAL so obviously someone had to be upset about it....and furthermore....see how according to you the educators are not racist...yet 'dedicated' and 'innovative'

if that's not racism...i dunno what is! But the funny thing is, it's dressed up to look 'innovative'....this seems like the worst kind of racism....a wolf in sheep's clothing cos many ppl (I'm lumping you in here) can't see it for what it really is

I have to go to work today...bbl
