Hello,

I tried to search this out as much as I could b/4 asking, but I am not sure where to get an Unmarried Certificate or Birth Certificate in China. I am from the US and she is from Guangzhou and I am not sure how this works there and she isn't so sure either. Does anyone know where we can get either of these? I am assuming we can request the police certificate from the police station. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Chris

I can research this for you at the GUZ web site but it might be in Chinese. You might want to contact a member here by the name of Darnell for specifics.

The Link to the US Consulate in Guangzhou (GUZ) is:

http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/forms_and_packets.htm

I looked at something they called, "Certification of Legal, Capacity and Intent to Marry," and this is merely a letter the Chinese Beneficiary signs. I did not specifically see the listing for an Unmarried Certificate.

Please post again or search for Darnell if this is insufficient.

Good luck.

Thank you very much for pointing me in that direction. I did a search on the GZ site and did come up with some answers. I appreciate your help!

Ya, she'll need that, as well as Police clearance certificate and Birth Certificate.

usually the TRANSLATION INTO ENGLISH is done at a special office (there are several in Guangzhou) and the resulting document is called a Chinese Notarial Document - inside it has :

1. Certified copy of the original document in Chinese

2. Translation Document

3. Translation attestation with stamps.

all bound into a 'white book', A4 in size.

Here's some links about it - have a longish read - the right answer is in there, disregard the bickering:

Good Luck !

one thing i would like to add is GUZ is not looking for "unmarried certificate" anymore, as in China it's impossible to obtain nation wide marriage records.

what you need is a "unmarried statement certificate", which needs to be notarized in local notary public office(公证处).

basically your fiancee will need to write a statement says she is currently unmarried and/or has never been married before, and have that notarized/translated, however notary public office may require your fiancee to obtain a certificate from 民政局 saying there is no marriage record of your fiancee in their local area, blablabla... your fiancee needs to call the local notary public office(公证处) ask them what they need before proceed.
