I have tried that but they said they needed to USA photographic ID's

Agreed with EM, your passport is photographic ID. I walked into Chase with a UK passport and UK credit card and had no problems.

Each bank is different. Keep trying with different banks until you find one that accepts your documents. If there's not one, then you may just have to wait until you have your new driver's license for your state.

so basically the bank didn't have a clue then? That's very annoying

Which bank did you go to?

I went to Security Bank

Chase, which is part of the JPMorgan group. Use one of the larger multi-state/ national/ international banks. Wells Fargo would be another or Bank of America, but I remember reading reports a while back that BoA can be fussy (although they shouldn't with your GC stamp).

So Go back to Security Bank.

Get the Branch Manager. Wait to SEE the branch manager. When asked, 'why do you want to see the branch manager?' - answer - 'to open a new bank account'.

Do not give other information to any one else that asks you.

Do not engage with other employees in their attempt to be helpful. It will be a waste of yer time, as OBVIOUSLY they do not understand the ID requirements of the Patriot Act.

Wait to see the branch manager. Once you've gotten the Branch manager - show the passport, visa stamp, poe stamp, and the SSN. That's sufficient.

Should it come up as to 'why to wait for branch manager', from the branch manager - thats easy - tell him/her the 'other person' wasn't trained properly for Patriot Act ID Requirements.

so basically the bank didn't have a clue then? That's very annoying

Not exactly.

--The CLERK/TELLER you dealt with, IMO, wasn't properly trained in the Patriot Act ID Requirements.

Ain't this sh|te fun?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

You can be a sheep lover living in Kuala Lumpur, doing nothing but sheep all day, and while visiting Saudia Arabia, India, Switzerland, and the USA only once in your lifetime, open a bank account in each of these countries. The same day you can start moving millions of dollars between these accounts. You need no green card for this, no birth certificate, no manners. People do it every day. It is not complicated in any way. All you need is enough common sense to know that you don't waste time arguing with uneducated drones that have the mental capacity of a jellyfish, but demand to talk to the manager right away.

Edited by Just Bob

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
