American reliance on government at all-time high

The so-called "Great Recession" has left Americans depending on the government dole like never before.

Without record levels of welfare, unemployment and other government benefits as well as tax cuts last year, the income of U.S. households would have plunged by an astonishing $723 billion — more than four times the record $167 billion drop reported last month by the Commerce Department.

Moreover, for the first time since the Great Depression, Americans took more aid from the government than they paid in taxes.

What a diсk.

Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) refused to answer questions from ABC News about his decision to filibuster a bill extending unemployment benefits.

Said Bunning: "I'm not talking to anybody."

When producers asked him to stay and talk on camera, Bunning "walked toward the elevator and shot the middle finger over his head."

A video clip shows Bunning kicking correspondent Jon Karl off the elevator, yelling "Excuse me! This is a Senator's only elevator!"

Install an energy-efficient AC unit in your home. I did that last year and now get to grab some of that Obama money - on top of having significantly lowered my monthly electric bill. ;)

I don't want AC in my home - currently I don't pay zip in electric to keep it cool - the ambient temerature is just dandy.

Don't try that in Florida in the summer. I can do without heat but I need that A/C.

Noted - is it humid as well?

Have you ever ventured into the American South in the middle of the summer? Of course it's friggin' humid. On a scale of 1 - 10 it is about a 20! You can break a wicked sweat sitting in the shade not moving a muscle. It's not just the heat...it's the humidity.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Atlanta is brutal too. I had the ill fortune of being in Columbia SC for a few days one summer. Wow! Felt like being in eastern India, which is easily the worst humidity I've ever experienced.
