Yet another vaccination question!

Hi there! I've been reading a lot of helpful information regarding all this vaccination confusion and appreciate all the advice so far. And still I, like many, also have an inquiry. I've read from other postings that only the first shot in a series (for example, TdaP, MMR) is required to adjust status.... could anyone show me a link to where this may be stated? My fiance underwent the medical exam in Thailand and had his DS-3025 filled out correctly, but his "Td" vaccincation - which he did receive - is listed as "insufficient time interval." I thought it was perfectly fine that he only received this first shot, but when I spoke to the civil surgeon's office yesterday, they said he would need two doses of the TdaP before adjusting status (and that 1 MMR was sufficient). He had no medical records of receiving the vaccinations prior to visiting the embassy doctor in Thailand last July. Does he need to get the second dose of the series before we send off the package, or is this CS's office mistaken? What is the appropriate time interval between receiving the 1st and 2nd does?

Thanks very much everyone!

CS office must be mistaken.... Tdap is a 10 year interval !!!! i had to really LOL at that one. If his shots are all upto-date then go ahead and AOS. Maybe find another CS to fill out the 693 if you need one.

I was once in the same dilemma. In my vaccination record for my K-1, it says "insufficient time interval" also for Tdap/Td. I called the health department here and they said I have to have another shot. However, I went to a vaccination clinic and they told me they can't give me another shot because the 1st shot is good for 5-10 years. I went to the Civil Surgeon's clinic and I was told I don't need another shot but I do need the Influenza and Hepatitis B shots since at my K-1 vaccination record, it says "Not age appropriate", thus I didn't get those shots.

It's just so confusing...

Anyways, got the Hepatitis B and the Influenza shots and now waiting for the I-693 form to be done since the clinic wants to check 1st my X-ray result before they finish the form.

Hep B and Flu shots? I didn't think those were required? Ah, this stuff IS so confusing! We've been debating back and forth whether or not to complete the I-693 at all. (Like it really seems to matter, but...) the instructions say that one must show proof that one has complied with the vaccination requirements and fill out an I-693 if the DS-3025 was not properly completed during the overseas medical. To my understanding that would mean that since he got all his required shots over there like he was supposed to and the doctor filled everything out properly on his DS-3025 (of which we have a copy), then we don't need to submit an I-693. Am I incorrect in my understanding of this? I guess what I need is USCIS's definition of "properly completed." Sheesh.

Read page 4 of the attached (FAQ #2). As long as your DS-3025 was filled out properly, you don't need the I-693 or CS visit.

http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-693instr.pdf

So the best course would be to submit the I-485 without the I-693 (OK to include a copy of the DS-3025 if you have it). If they require the medical or additional vaccinations, they will either send you an RFE or advise you at the time of your interview (when I took Rin for her medical here in the US, I met a couple getting their medical done as they did not submit it with their I-485. They were filing AOS after getting married in the US on the VWP, so his wife had never had an overseas medical).

If you have to go to the CS, here are their instructions:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/civil.htm

Also, new vaccination guidelines for the CS go into effect next monday, December 14, 2009.

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/civil_ti_vacc-2009.htm

which is referenced here:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/laws_regs/fed...immigration.htm

Also from the FAQ on this CDC website:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/laws_regs/fed...gration-faq.htm

For a person who has had no vaccines or whose vaccines are not up to date, do all doses of the required vaccines need to be given to complete the immigrant medical exam?

Because completion of the vaccine series often requires several months, immigrant applicants are not required to receive all doses of the required vaccines as part of the immigrant medical exam. Rather, applicants are required to receive at least one dose of each vaccine that is appropriate for their age group. They are also encouraged to receive as many added doses as needed to complete the series.

Went through some of this with our CS, but eventually took all the CDC and CS instructions in with me to sort it out. Rin did not get additional vaccinations, but the children did (not due to immigration but due to school enrollment requirements).

This is also in the FAQ changes vaccine requirements:

Who will be affected by the new vaccination criteria?

The new vaccination criteria apply to all applicants who seek legal permanent residence in the United States. This includes those examined overseas and those already in the United States who want to adjust their visa status to become a legal permanent resident.

As of December 14th, HPV and Zoster are no longer required.

TdaP for adults is substituted for Td once. Td required once every 10 years. But if it is the initial dose, the CS you spoke to may be right (see the note under the table on page two:

Hi, I have my RFE for my I-693. According to Dr. Arnold representative I do not need any vaccinations.

I had Tdap in the Phil, "insufficient time interval", MMR and Varicella "VH".

I received an RFE and asked for I-693, I asked the USCIS costumer representative about that and he said that my I-693 might be invalid.(not sure about the exact reason for another I-693)

I do not have the knowledge about the appropriate interval but I went to another CS and he required me to have TD and MMR, but he found out in the test that I am pregnant.

In November filer maybe about 5 of us have an RFE for I-693 without knowing the exact reason about it.

They said I need the flu shot or influenza vaccine because it's flu season. I was debating on getting the Hepa B vaccine because they didn't give any reason why I need it considering it said on my K-1 vaccination record that it's not age appropriate. My hubby said though that the vaccine will help me to be more protected and that since there's nothing to lose anyways because I'm covered by his insurance, might as well have it. So I did...

This thing is really so confusing!!! I don't really have so much patience in this. But I just look at my hubby and I remember that I'm not doing this for myself only but for him also and for the chance for us to be together forever. Just that makes all the confusions worth it.

Rin and John, thanks for the links. I bookmarked all just in case the clinic preparing my I-693 needs more info about it. They said, it's their 2nd time only to do the I-693, the 1st being so long ago, I assumed.
