We had our interview at 7.15am this morning, after sitting in the waiting room for 10 minutes we were called right at 7.15am.

The interviewer was nice, young and male. He asked for non-USC's passport, then swore us both in. He confirmed name/address and randomly asked me to sign a piece of paper, I obliged of course, but i'll be honest i'm not sure what it was for.

He asked a few "have you ever been deported", " have you ever been arrested" questions - not all of them though, just a few (he didn't ask about terrorism for e.g.).

He then asked for our co-sponsors 2005 taxes and asked how we met, no problem with that, he seemed satisfied. He asked for "evidence of joint life" - we had the works (car titles, lease agreements, insurance, joint bank account etc) and again he seemed satisfied and didn't require any more.

He then said that he needs to wrap things up and attend to some technicalities before approving the case, but he sees no reason why he can't make it happen for us. I asked if the background check had been completed and from what he "round-a-boutly" said, I gathered yes and he had to "finish the technicalities" - I thought it was vague too. Technicalities? Total time for the interview - about 15-20 minutes.

So here's the crunch points.

- He DIDN'T remove my i-94 card or write anything in my passport whatsoever

- He DIDN'T take my interim EAD

- He DIDN'T take my advance parole

- I signed a piece of paper in his office ( I can't remember what the document was for - i'm assuming acknowledging lifting of conditions in 2 years?) you know what it's like..it goes by fast.

He sounded positive and said everything looks good, he didn't need any more joint evidence from us (we had more, but he was satisfied), but he didn't do things that would indicate an upcoming approval, like removing the i-94 be specific on what the next steps would be - just "attend to some of the technicalities".

Without being pre-judgemental, the officer looked young (mid to late 20's) and some of the things he did during the interview (like not asking about / wanting the EAD/AP/I-94 returned and being more direct with what will happen after the interview - not just "attend to technicalities") that seem standard on interviews weren't done. Maybe he was new and he has to run it by a supervisor before approving it?

So guys, what do you think? It seems the matter is unresolved, does attend to technicalities mean routine processing, or case specific matters? By the way, does anyone that has been interviewed in Denver remember the name of the officer that interviewed them?

Did he give you a copy of the piece of paper you signed? When nubia and I went in the lady tore the piece of paper in half and had her sign one of them along with me then the officer signed it. I think you will be ok maybe you had the same guy as the other lady lovelove?

Nope, he didn't give us a copy of the paper I signed. Just asked for my signature "here.." and then continued. He did mention at the end of the interview - right when he was saying he needed to "attend to the technicalities" - about lifting conditions in two years time.

But no, we didn't get a copy of the paper I signed. Having the i-94, EAD and AP still intact is concerning.

I think you have been approved, as you say he was young and inexperienced so yes he would definitely go to a supervisor to assistance. Expect something in the mail soon....Congratulations

Janice

Thanks for your reply, I hope so Janice, but one thing - how do people know that new officers DO actually have to go to a supervisor for an approval? I understand the theory, but how do people know this is fact?

Out of interest, it looks like you filed I-130 and I-485 concurrently, like I did. Did you ever receive any sort of "I-130 approval"? Perhaps that is what is left to do?

I'm wondering about how this concurrent filing goes, I assumed that I-130 would have to be approved before they moved forward on I-485, but from your timeline it doesn't look like you got NOA2 for I-130? Is that correct?

I'm not sure what the pro's and con's are for concurrent filing, but I new both the I-485 and I-130 needed to be filed, so I may aswel get them started together.

HolyMoly,

He would only have taken the I-94, EAD, and AP document if he had been able to approve you at the conclusion of the interview. And as he told you, he could not.

You should have asked him what the technicalties were, and you should have read the paper you signed before signing it.

Yodrak

We had our interview at 7.15am this morning, after sitting in the waiting room for 10 minutes we were called right at 7.15am.

Interesting. Yes, it helps, thanks. I'm interested to hear what people's experiences with the concurrent filing route are because I don't think many on this board are going through it (most are K-1). I hope your case gets resolved quickly and so you can get your Green Card!

Thanks Yodrak, I know, I should have read the form before signing it, I just took it as a formality. Lesson learnt on that note.

It seemed to be a toss up between

- Find out what the technicalities were yet risk being thought of as rude / pushy (which isn't a "case breaker", but not favorable for an applicant). He still would have had to attend to his technicalities anyway though.

- Not find out what the technicalities were, keep a reasonable interview atmosphere and let him do what he would inevitably do anyway - still attend to his technicalities.

It would have been ideal to find out what the hold up was, but at the time it didn't seem practical.

Having worked for Government departments and such I know as a Junior Assistant that I would have to go to a supervisor for assistance, although mine was in England I would of thought that these departments would work on the same principle. Hope this answers your thoughts on this.

Hey usna,

Just so I can understand the process better, why would they take immigration documents (I-94 and ect) if someone was NOT approved? Thanks for any advice!
