I think the USA is a great country as well, I've been over five times already and its people are joy to talk to, however I have seen things that really have shocked me.

Let's talk again in 5 years when you've actually lived here - you might see things in a different light.

Perhaps......but with my own experiences in that I include the experiences of my American fiancee and she has lived there all her life. She has been one of the victims who has fallen foul of the health care system, tbh its probably the only major issue that has "really" shocked me with the USA.

LAX is a shitty airport? Its no better or worse than most aiports (better actually than Heathrow of Gatwick).

Newark airport is shitty.

I actually agree LAX is shitty, although the terminals are small compared to some other airports which can be nice.

I'm not sure Sydney and Melbourne as being "great" airports. They are no better than Denver or PDX or even Detroit (Northwest terminal is surprisingly good)

Singapore, Hong Kong, Schipol....those are great airports

Those of you who love the health systems in Europe and Canada should go live there instead of insisting that we change our way here. They've already got what you want. Let them share it with you. That's easier than trying to convince us to agree with you. :P

Since you don't like our current President and his policies, you should move out of the country, fool!

Couldn't have said it better. :innocent:

Likewise, you should have moved under the eight years of Bush instead of trashing him on a daily basis, like a spoiled child, simply because he did not agree with you.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Yes, PH, I don't have health insurance. I pay as I go, and I don't want to be forced to pay for others.

I'm not all that keen on the share of defense spending in relation to total government spending, yet, Constitutionally, the primary duty of the federal government is to protect our sovereignity and interests within our borders and throughout the globe. That's gotta cost a lot.

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

....

Are you one of those cafeteria constitutionalists? You know, pick only the parts that you find acceptable?

Define "promote the general welfare". I bet it don't mean what you think it means.

I'm confused, how would you be 'forced' to pay for others seeing as you don't pay taxes?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Leaving that to one side though.

Most people don't have the income or the inherited wealth that would allow them to pay as required for health care. Do you think the insurance model is inherently wrong, as necessarily those who are healthy pay toward the care of those who are sick? There is no equilibriam in the system. I can't see how that can be seen as fair by you either.

Oh, I was waiting for this...there's an 'interpretation' of the Constitution in this case, but not in the case of the Second Amendment. ;) If I didn't know any better, I'd say you sound like one of them activist judges deciding to define what the Constitution means rather than what it says.

When were your there last? Sydney and Melbourne airports are now years ahead of most airports here, especially Melbourne which is constantly being renovated. While waiting, there are a range of stores to shop at and restaurants to eat at. Their airports are modern and fresh. Whereas, LAX and many others are an embarrassment. A lot of the airport has not been updated since it opened in 1982.

But I do agree that other airports around the world are even better. Some are light years ahead of airports here. The major cities here have some of the crappiest airports I have seen in my life. I guess people here don't demand much and don't care, so you can get away with such garbage facilities. As I joked before, your average American living in a large city will complain about too much or too little ice in their drink but will not say a word (or care) about those things that actually affect and improve their life or the place they live in.

Constantly improving your city is common sense abroad but seems to be an alien concept here. Then when coupled with the earlier point of mine of why would we change since we are the best. Presto you have 2009 America.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

They have since been upgraded. Melbourne airport is also scheduled to be expanded again, and include the equivalent retail space of your average mall. Heck every 6 months or so I go back to Melbourne or Sydney I see more and more new projects.

All of the lounges are now brand new too. They also have alcohol, breakfast, snacks etc; basically the whole nine yards. We get pretzels at LAX AA.

Then again the US airline industry is a joke. It's almost like the airlines are having a race to the bottom here. With a challenge amongst themselves of who can provide less and charge you more for it. I love flying but hate flying in the US.
