People who refer to a father figure as "daddy"

My brother and I called our parents "Mommy and Daddy" when growing up. Later on their "names" changed to "Mom and Dad."

Nowadays, my brother and I refer to our Dad as "Irritating Male Parental Unit" or "IMPU" for short. :star:

I'm not 'offended' but I find it funny that you think I am. My goodness people, let's not be so uptight :P

It's just the reference of the word 'weird.' Blame it on the job...weird/bizarre is such a strange connotation when taken out of it's original context. I suppose 'odd' or 'different' are more fitting, but again that's one of the risks of me being an English teacher...

Well I have a university degree in English language and literature and don't find it "odd" at all to use the world weird.

I didn't say you were offended but you keep "attacking" (and I use that word lightly as it is the internet) me over and over again about the use of the word weird. Weird has a negative connotation for you, but it doesn't for everybody and it also doesn't if you looked up the definition.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I think it's weird that people are insulted by the term weird. :P

I know! I call people weird all the time and in not a negative way. I call my brothers weirdos when they think something is cool that I think is silly or odd. It's not to put them down, it's more of a joke.

And just for all you guys out there who don't like it..

YALL ARE WEIRDDDDDDDDD

You said yall - that's weird :hehe:

FYI, uscandual is one of my dearest and best of friends, so take your foot out of your mouth now.

Um. Wow. Ok, some serious 'tudes dudes. I wasn't offended or insulted. Sheesh. For the record, I am a nerd who loves words. My MA is in British Lit, so I blame Shakespeare.

And, uh, Treble? No one's attacking. Chill out seriously.

I didn't realize that the two of you were buddies, so my bad for calling you on that. It sounded like a horrible thing to say to a person who is obviously upset that his children don't keep in contact with him. I didn't realize the two of you were chums, and joking around, so I apologize for that.

The ONLY other time I have ever said something snarky to you was when you were posting the pop-corn eating emoticons in CptRubyHeart's thread talking about her divorce, which we both know many other people were annoyed about. I just found that very obnoxious considering what the girl is going through, which apparently the opinion was shared, considering your post was deleted.

Other than that one post, (which by the way, I've forgotten about, I don't sit on grudges,) I don't have a problem with you.

Apology accepted. The Canada forum knows me quite well; and they can tell you what kind of a person and friend I am.

I was and will continue to be extremely sarcastic when anyone posts personal stuff online and expects to be pitied and babied around.

If anyone -and yes, that includes CRH- take themselves that seriously in a public online forum, there is something wrong indeed - just not with me ;)

cheerios.

Just my personal experience, but the only times I've heard the word Daddy used were when a girl was buttering up her dad for an expensive item, or a girl/guy referring to their sugardaddy
