Health Insurance for the Immigrant...

So wondering if getting some sort of health insurance for the immigrant would help in proving the intent to support them. And if anyone has any knowledge of where to get such a policy, or if there is a good specialization for health insurance for people who aren't here yet..... share the knowledge?

Peace,

Mariah

Looks like you never got an answer. I found these two older threads (summer 2008) about the topics of getting temporary health insurance:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141348

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=141171

Suggest you review these.

Also, one company recommended in those threads is American Visitor Insurance.

I quote from their webpage regarding "Inbound Immigrant Insurance":

http://www.americanvisitorinsurance.com/in...t-insurance.asp

Inbound Immigrant Insurance

Plan Summary

Inbound immigrant health insurance is designed specifically for recent immigrants or visitors to the United States who do not qualify for domestic insurance. Inbound immigrant health insurance provides fixed medical insurance coverage up to 5 years. Inbound immigrant health insurance is a Scheduled Benefit Program which makes it a very affordable plan, although it only covers a fixed, scheduled amount of medical costs.

Eligibility - Persons who are non-US citizens, over the age of 14 days who is traveling to the United States for business, pleasure, to study or to immigrate, who has arrived in the United States within the 24 months prior to the proposed Effective Date, who have paid premium as outlined in the enrollment application, and who have completed the enrollment form in complete detail are eligible for Inbound Immigrant.

I plan to get this, or a similar policy for approximately a 2-3 month period to cover my fiancee from her date of arrival and until the time we can get married, and I can add her to my group plan through my employer. I think to be living in the US without any catastrophic insurance at all is a very risky thing to do, and not recommended.

Ms if you have blue cross for your self they have a blue cross international coverage. I have traditional blue cross and my wife is covered under blue care worldwide policy. If that helps any.
