We had been dating for about a year and I knew that I was ready to ask the question. Gabriella was graduating, and I knew that there would be no better time to speak with her parents and then ask her "the question". I flew to Brazil and arrived a few days before Gabriella's graduation, barely enough time to get into the rhythm of full-time speaking in my pseudo conversational version of Portuguese. The day of Gabriella's graduation, I met her father. As we were driving to the graduation I told Gabriella's father I needed to speak to him about something very important. I asked him if he would give me permission to marry his daughter. He gave me quite an unexpected heartfelt approval with some great advice. *PHEW* One down, one to go.

The graduation proceeded and afterwards we went to a restaurant to celebrate. We pretty much ate our fill and I felt that the moment had arrived. In front of about 60 of her family and friends, I went to the front of the room and asked for their attention. I offered a toast to Gabriella. After the toast was finished, I said I needed to ask Gabriella an important question. I pulled out the ring, got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said "YES! YES! YES!"

The proposal of marriage was made after a very romantic discussion of German and American immigration law. Unfortunately, neither country has a boyfriend/girlfriend visa and all other visas were just out of the question. Oh darn.

I didn't propose, is my marriage still legal?

I dunno. We never took vows at our wedding. We would like to have a wedding recreation for my family because none of them were able to come for the wedding. However, most people would call that a renewing of the vows. We never took vows, so what do you call it? :P

he came in bulgaria where i live, he had a childhood dream to visit a real castle and so we did visit one of the biggest here, he was extremely happy and i was happier to make his dream come true :) then on the top of this castle (as its located on a big hill), there's a church, medieval one and while i was looking around i saw him on his knee with a box in his hands :) it was very romantic, as we always joked he's my knight and that day i felt like his princess or more like queen...i even knighted him after i said Yes :) we are hopeless romantic

Neither of us did. Him asking me to move to the US and give up everything here was more of a big deal.

Maybe I am too practical and not romantic enough, just seems like carrying a box, dropping a ring in a fortune cookie, or a glass of wine, your girl doesn't have any say in what kind of ring to get, and then to know the precise size she needs. After she said, yes, let's go ring shopping, it was her choice. Thank goodness she didn't like a ten carat diamond, was way too big and bulky for her, but would have paid for it anyway, a 1.25 carat was large enough for her. Other practical reasons would be ring insurance and the chance someone would cut her finger off to steal it. We also did some research on diamond quality, ha, forgot all that stuff already. And I was concerned about the structural mounting of the diamond, some are so poor, that diamond can pop out. She still wears it everyday with her matching wedding ring and shows it off proudly. Making her happy with it was my prime concern.

Aaron wanted me to get a candlelit dinner reserved right after he gets to Cebu - but my grandpa died the day before he arrived. So, we had to push it back to a later date. The weekend before the new year, we kinda decided to do it right then. Good thing the restaurant had a spare table for two and we grabbed it right away. Food was awesome and the place was neat - a lil high end though, LOL. And, yes, I felt very good that night coz the dessert was fab. We knew we were headed down the two-become-one path but an engagement ring is not a requirement as a Filipino, so I never thought he would give me one.

While waiting for dessert, he asked me to stand by an area where there would be a good view - said he'd like to take my picture... and then he kneeled down and said my full name (perfectly pronounced!) and formally asked me to marry him. I have never been the mushy, cheesy and hardcore romantic type, but right at that moment I had to try my bestest not to cry... :">

I knew I was going to marry Marisol after about the 3rd email but we wrote for several months and then I went to peru to visit her to be more sure of the situation. We already knew at the time we would most likely be getting married. In Peru it is the custom that he man ask the father before formaly asking the woman although she already knew it was happening. I had it all planned out until we were all seated at the breakfast table with her family and her father said, I hear you have some thing to say.

Well my now father inlaw only spoke cechua (? spelling) untill he was twenty something so I dont understand his spanish vey well and now I had to have a long conversation with the entire family. I asked him for his daughters hand in marraige and he gave me some of the best advise I think I have ever heard.

At this point I still hadnt asked my future wife to be my wife so we went t a nice restaurant in the town of Arequipa where she lives. We previously looked at wedding rings on Zales web site( the internet is a great thing for that) she had chosen a ring but it was in her words way too expensive. In my mind it wasnt all that much especially for some one I really loved. I gave her the ring and she just stared at it and didnt say a word. I knew what the answer would be but I think the ring really took her off guard. By the way she doesnt wear it in peru.

I just got back from Peru 2 adys ago. The trip was hell, being with my wife heaven. DANG !!! I love that woman

We had been talking about it for several months. But none the less, I told her that I couldn't do it without her parents blessing. So, on Dec. 23, 2007, in Las Vegas, she called her parents house, and when they answered, she said "Dad, Rob has something he wants to talk to you about". I guess I had been a bit nervous about it and putting it off for a bit. But I asked, and as soon as he said yes, and hung up, I asked her. I don't even think I finished asking before she said yes. That was the best part for me.

I hadn't bought her a ring at that point, and she had been telling me the whole time "ohhh, I don't need a ring, don't worry about it". Money was pretty tight at that point. And then I found out that I couldn't roll over my small retirement package from a previous job and had to take a check for it. So I decided to use it on her ring. I'm so glad that I didn't pick it out myself. I told her how much I could spend and told her to get whatever she wanted. I'm really glad that I let her pick out what she wanted. No, it's not the traditional way of doing it, but it is much more practical. In the end, it's all about her and her happiness is what really matters.

It was very romantic! I clubbed her in the head and drug her off by the hair. when she woke up she didnt know who she was, so I explained and we have been happily married ever since.

Went to dinner at restaurant Rosa Nautica (I'm sure you know where that is Waldo). Sat outside eating and drinking a bottle of wine....

Slipped the ring in the wine and the rest is history.

My wife was speachless as she never in a million years was expecting it to happen so fast.

I've actually never been there. If I'm right It's the one near BEAUTIFUL MiraFlores/Chorrillos on la playa... ohhh que RICO!!!

I was up the way but still in MiraFlores/Chorrilos. It's a nice restaurant I believe named Mangos.

It's the one that goes out over the pacific ocean that you can see from the JW Marriot and at LarComar where Mangos is.

I met my hubby while I was a tour guide in Lima-Peru, he was passenger and uring the city tour we just connected.

Well during his 3rd trip to Peru he decided to take one of my tours (yes, again) so he passed as one of my 20 passengers, in the middle of my tour and in the exact same place where we exchanged emials and phone numbers the first time he asked me to be his wife, on his knee and with a beatiful ring, I was speachless of course and my other passengers were super surprised, was definitely a Kodak moment...
