Actually, I should add that I only had Sujeet with me in the room and was only going to have him with me at the birth...though I had the c-section. I don't think I wanted my mom even to see the birth, yet I felt okay with strangers. lol. The family was all in the waiting room.

Then that was the time I felt very glad to be 4,000 miles away from my mother. I didn't want her around for the birth.

I hope you are able to find someone Nessa. I still think the idea of a doula would be a good one if you can't find anyone else. You still have a few months left to build a trusting relationship with one.

I agree. A doula would be great! Here's a definition and some links for more info. You can also ask your doc to refer you to one in your area.

I also would recommend using a midwife for the delivery. I did for my 3rd baby and I must say it wasa great experience.

Also, don't be afraid of natural childbirth. I did it 3 times, and while there is pain, it really is manageable. And once its all over, you tend to forget it! Good luck!

If you are lucky. Be prepared for anything.

I also thought that as a woman bearing her first child, I would be in labor for plenty of hours, get my drugs, blah, blah. My labor was 4.5 hours, 2 of which I was at home debating whether or not I was actually in labor.

whats a doula?

a midwife - as in not a medical doctor.

my inexperienced take? not in this lifetime. I want all the power of Western medicine at me and my child's service. But that's me.

A doula is not actually a midwife. They are really more like a birth coach, there to help you through the birth and interact with the medical staff.

I had 2 deliveries with a doc and one with a midwife. The midwife experience was far more positive for me.

Yes do be prepared. Natural childbirth is not easy for everyone and some people experience A LOT of pain, in that case it's not fun, it's not pleasant and it is not a warm fuzzy memory. In fact it might just put you off having more children.

my mom would have to bring my sister. she stopped working because my sister has Down, so she depends on my ex-stepdad for money. He will not pay for my sister to go to another country. and she just doesn't have 3k laying around.

my 2 best friends, 1 can afford, but she applied for a tourist visa twice last year and got denied. the thing about that is, every time u apply, it's $100 for an interview that takes place half the country away, so u not only have to wait 3 months for the dayum thing and spend another at least $100 for the trip just for them to look at your face and say no u can't go.

the other best friend can't afford leaving her job and daughter to come to the states.

and no doula for me

You should have *someone* with you, other than hospital staff. Trust me, you won't care who sees your parts once you are in hard labor.

So true. I am a very modest person, I won't even change in front of my mom or sister. But when you are there, you have no choice. LOL. After getting checked in to the hospital, it won't be long until you feel like you don't have to hide anything from the staff. This comes into play during the attempts at breastfeeding too. You just don't even care anymore within a couple hours, and I am very self-conscious of how I look, yet it still was like whatever, let's count how many nurses and Drs have seen me now. :crying::lol: They don't even care, that's all they do all day long with both skinny and chubby people.

yeah that is me too, I am very modest and I always thought I would have problems when it came time to deliver etc... but when you are in the moment all you can think about is the pain etc and you don't even care who is there...

I voted 7.5 to 10 hours.

Why the eff does it take so long to squeeze one out?

its a bit more complicated and difficult then taking a dump :P
