I have some IKEA furniture. Some of it is great, some of it not so much. I would suggest you go into one of the stores and look at the furniture you are wanting and make a decision. You have to build it, so have fun with that. I really do love their stuff and hubby and I seem to be able to get it together pretty well, especially if I leave him alone to do it lol.

My living room set is from Ikea - But, as Leafgal said - your best bet is to go to the store and look at it, test it out. I thought I had my decision made until I got in the store and sat on the couch I thought I wanted - so so hard! The one that I bought, though, I absolutely love - we call it the sleeping machine, because anyone that sits on it falls asleep! Plus, I got it for half price because it was on clearance in store.

Ikea's great! They're kitchen, bedroom and bathroom accessories are awesome. But I agree with Leafgal. Take a good look at what you're buying, furniture-wise. Some of it has a pretty short shelf-life. But if you're only looking for interim furniture until you find something better, then go for it!

Have some Ikea stuff and for the most part it has held up very well!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I just drove all the way to Chicago and bought a lot of furniture from them. I look very carefully at the construction and what it is made from. I wiggle and shake and pull everything on the floor. I do not buy particleboard if I can help it. I love with our Hemmes bed, Norden table, and massive Norrebo shelving, all solid wood construction under $300 a piece. My daughter`s bed is also solid wood. I forget the series as we bought it back in October. Love it all. You just have to watch what you buy.

This is the shelving we have (in the second size) - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90068123

We got that in the discount area as a floor model. There was not a thing wrong with it, but the price was marked down 45%!! Make sure you also check out the AS-IS area.

The bed - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79842786

The dining room table (but in the 59/80 size you can pick with the drop down box) - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10059165

The chairs - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60114980

The sofa - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S39819293

We got the sofa from eBay though for 60% less although it was only used for a few months...barely. Our model has a bed conversion capacity.

Daughter`s bed - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10123996

We also bought the canopy to go on top. It is super cute.

Do not buy any of the really cheap dining ware sets. They chip at the drop of a hat. I have been happy with my 365 series dishes though.

*sigh* I miss Ikea, there isn't one here in North Carolina. I love their gadgets and and stuff. I love their votive candle holders 4 for $2 and their spice jars, 4 for $2. Great prices!

I've never bought any of their furniture, but I know plenty of people who have, and as mentioned above, just make sure of the construction of it beforehand. My sister bought some chairs and they were wonderfully comfortable, but it took us several hours to get them put together. The pieces didn't all quite match up and it was very annoying! They lasted a really long time though, I think she ended up giving them to someone.
