I knew from the NVC website that I need to send my wife's passport photocopy along with DS230-I to NVC. Yesterday I received DS230 instruction and went to the website to double check and found that I need to complete and send both parts of DS230 to NVC (part-I signed, part-II not) and need to send the originals and photocopies of her BC, police certificate, and our MC. Then I called and talked to a live operator this morning and was informed that no need to send other documents except the passport photocopy with DS230-I. Now I am confused what to do. Should I rely on her (risk-receive a RFE) or should I send all originals to NVC now(risk-lose all originals)

Please advise

That is a highly unusual response from the NVC, as we had to send in our originals and a copy of the passport biographical page. I'd call the NVC again, twice, to at least get a consensus answer. But, that's based on the premise that you won't get 3 separate answers.

CR1 application

I-130: 03/26/2007-07/02/2007 at NSC

NVC: 07/20/2007-11/08/2007

Interview at Montreal Consulate: 01/18/2008

(2 months' additional security checks)

Received Green Card: 05/12/2008

Removal of Conditions

I-751: 2/25/10-

I got the same info from the NVC Operator just to send originals and photocopy of the passport..

But anyways.. I printed a copy from the NVC site that states send photocopy of the documents and highlighted it with an highlighter.

And made copies of the documents and included it in the package..

Hey.. I ain't got nothing to loose..

Looks like you have to send all to NVC. It has been effective from July 13, 2007. For certain U.S. Embassies and Consulates, NVC provides additional document collection and review, and schedules the cases for interview. DOS refers to these embassies and consulates as Appointment Posts.

We did not have to send all, as we completed our process last year. Previously, only few countries' (Phillippines, Lebanon, etc) applicants required to send all documents to NVC. Here is the link that I have found that about this change.

I have a co-worker friend who applied for his wife in Bangladesh this year. He just sent the photocopy with DS230-I in September. Case was completed in October with no RFE. I would call and speak to another NVC rep.

Things do change. I would certainly send the original DS230 because it's the actual visa application but the other items need clarification from NVC. Make sure you talk to more than one person and that they know specifically which country you're dealing with.

It is confusing. I would think the website is very specific about the change when it says it has been effective since July 13, 07. But again, as CaribQueen said, someone has sent only the DS 230 part I and passport photocopy very recently. I would call NVC 3-4 times to hear, if they are saying the same thing. In addition, you can email the US Embassy (dhakaIV@state.gov) in Dhaka, Bangladesh explaining your confusion. I am sure, they will reply you.

I called and talked to another rep and got same answer. She mentioned, for Bangladesh, we don't need other documents right now, your wife should obtain them to present at the interview. I argued with her based on what NVC website says. She said, just send photocopy of passport with DS230-I, you would be fine.

Now what?

Email the US Embassy as I suggested. Tell them about the different versions of the NVC website and NVC operator. Embassy definitely knows what is the right one as of now.

It's certainly worth shooting of an email but I'm betting the operators gave you the correct information.

I just had my third call to NVC and the rep said they only need DS230-I and passport photocopy for my case.

Three different reps..same answers...

What does the NVC instruction that you received say? I would email Embassy to be confirmed.

The DS230 instruction refers the NVC Website link only. It does not say anything specifically. I've already emailed to embassy. Let's see what they say..

hey Shamim,

I also noticed that the Mumbai embassy has changed from Standard processing to Appointment NVC processsing after a VJ friend asked me what docs to submit with the DS-230.

I guess same must be for Bangladesh. I think you should rely on the website.

One more thing you have to send the originals OR certified notarised copies. This for sure for the Mumbai Embassy. I would advice you dont send anythin in original. Its better to send notarised photocopies of the originals Even if they need only the page of passport copy in their processing at NVC office they will throw all the notarise copy of docs you have sent ..... which wont do you any harm as you still have the ORIGINALS with you.

BUT

If you just send the page of passport and then you get an RFE to send the rest of the docs... your process willl be more delayed. So its better you do what the Website says rather than listening to the operator. Thats what I feel. Another reminder... send the notarised photocopies and not the originals.

Regards

Jigi
