K1 submissions by month

I decided to count the K1 submissions by month, using the 'sent' date:

Oct. 85

Sept 64

Aug 64

July 226

June 189

May 231

April 193

Mar. 205

Feb. 174

Jan. 173

Submissions really dropped off after July, as you can see. Interesting to me, that there were still a lot of submission all the way from Jan through July. Right now, the service centers seem to be slugging through mostly june applications, with about half of them done so far. Once they are through July applications, things should really start moving :D. All of Aug thru October COMBINED is less than what was submitted in July. :D

Hey that is a very good observation you made. I agree with you. See there is a trend or pattern here after all! oops I will get moderated for that. After looking at your list it is obvious that

A) many applied in June and especially July to beat the new fee increase

B) starting from August on there is a 250% decline in AOS sent

C) the new fees are having their intended affect - slow down the number of applications for understaffed and overworked USCIS case workers

D) like you said if you filed after July 30 within 6 months and onward it looks like you will be getting much better processing times and service, how could you not when the workload drops by 2.5 to 3 times less.

You counted the submissions from where? visajourney?

The visajourney community is just a microcosm of all the people flowing through the system right now. VJ members were aware of the fee increases and - as we all know - most made a mad dash to beat the increases.

The public was also aware of the increases, but likely not to the extent you see here.

So - while your observations may be accurate for VJ, I don't know they are accurate enough to predict what is happening to the entire caseload within the system.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about that. Yes, it is a sample soley from visa journey.

You are completely right though, these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. After all, it is just a sample of those filers who found and joined this website.

I like playing with numbers though. It helps me to pass the time and gives me a better idea of what's really going on. :)

I looked at the information and data of 'imigration timelines' just above. The date USCIS gives is the earliest application they are working on. It is also several weeks out of date by now, as it was last updated october 15th.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised though if this was an accurate "idea" of the numbers of petitions that were sent around July in general. I mean, it would make sense if you were researching the process for filing a K1 or K3 visa that you would know the fees were going to increase and try to get your petition in there before they went up. I think it's mildly sad though that an increase in fees means a decrease in applications, if in fact that is the case. I know that this process is not cheap, I'm not rich by any means, but my fiance and I are doing what it takes to make the money to do it because we want to be together. It's sad that some people may not be afforded the same opportunity to be with their loved ones because of a monetary issue.

On a side note, processing times should get faster and for that I'm SUPER excited! Oh yes, and tapout...the processing times on the USCIS website are for the case with the first date on it. That means that date of April 12, 2007 may be a case that is stuck and not approved yet due to RFE's or name checks, or any number of reasons. They have to post the date of the case that is the longest time ago. I hope that made sense. As you can see from many VJ'ers timelines though, most of the April and May filers have been approved and June and July are not far behind! YAY!

October 2006- Met Taktyx playing the World of Warcraft

I-129F

September 26, 2007- I-129F Package sent by courier to CSC

September 28, 2007- Received at CSC

October 29, 2007- NOA1 hardcopy arrives!

February 5, 2008- NOA2!

April 23, 2008- Medical

April 22, 2008- Interview!

April 26, 2008- POE Edmonton

June 5, 2008- Legal wedding

October 11, 2008- Wedding ceremony with family

AOS

December 6, 2008- AOS package mailed

December 8, 2008- Package received

December 15, 2008- Check cashed! WOOHOO!

December 22, 2008- All 3 NOA1's received

January 5, 2009- I-485 transferred to CSC. Here's hoping for no interview!

January 14, 2009- Biometrics

February 23, 2009- EAD and AP received in the mail, dated Feb 14th.

April 23, 2009- Welcome to the United States Letter arrives. Card to follow.

June 1, 2009- GC received in mail. Approval date 04/09/09

Done with USCIS until 04/2011!

I doubt there will be a decrease in applications in the long run. People who were thinking about it just stepped things up to get it done before the increase went into effect.

The other side though is this - I have wondered if it might decrease the number of 'frivolous' petitions - such as couples who were 'rushing' before they were really ready; people 'shopping' for a spouse; or those who really aren't financially ready to marry.

Face it - the old fee was less than somebody might spend on a really nice outfit. Taking it over 500 bucks makes you think a bit harder.

I wouldn't discount Brian's numbers. Yes VJ is a microcosm, but there's a lot of evidence that our community tracks pretty close to USCIS. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the VJ numbers scale accurately with USCIS.

That being the case, I'm not sure we can expect a sudden surge in approvals after the July filers are taken care of. As the load drops off, USCIS will almost certainly re-allocate resources to assist with other immigration cases. Hopefully they'll give us a little breathing room before they do it, but I would be really surprised to see approvals coming out of the woodwork. Pleasantly surprised of course, but surprised nonetheless.

Nice work Brian!

It is a well known fact that the information provided by the USCIS timelines is not accurate as the USCIS will never report a date less than 6 mos. for I-129f processing.

I agree that even though VJ is a microcosm it might also be relatively statistically sound sample (standard caveats of course).

YMMV

For a good reply, I would suggest starting a new topic. This topic won't be viewed by so many people.

This forum, as well as the region specific forum for your consulate would be good places to post. good luck,
