yeah, trailmix is right. In my ds230, i got RFE'd because of #2 and # 20. In number 2, i put my complete maiden name, but NVC encircled it saying its wrong entry because They(nvc )said that i have to put my married name. Its because i applied for my passport after i got married. If you have applied for your passport before you got married, you have to encode your maiden name in #2.

Okay, let me see if I've got this straight... you need to put your current name in #1, and again include it in #2 even though #2 says "other names used"?

Also, I had put only the maiden last name in #2. Are they saying the full previous name has to be stated in #2?

You weren't born in the years of 1958 or 1974? Your Husband/wife?

My case is a parent case, but in any case, no, 74 does not relate to the date of birth of either the petitioner nor the beneficiary.

It's the impatient one, isn't it? I am not good when it comes to waiting for things lol! :)

But anyways, I've looked over some of the timelines on here and with no RFE's it takes at least 2 weeks or a little bit less for peoples' cases to be completed after that "NVC has received the checklist on..." message on the automated service.

NVC received our "checklist" (we were missing the DS-230) on 9/11 and no "Case Complete" message yet. Should I call them? I'm afraid of bugging them too much and fear that they could get too ticked off and push our case back "by accident".

Mononoke, what does your 8-ball say lol?

Thanks in advanced for any replies!

If it makes you feel any better, our petition was received by the NVC not long after yours and our IV has only just been generated.. you have a pretty impressive time line there.. I wouldnt be too worried!

HI CHRIS PARKER,

WHAT I MEANT ABOUT MY CASE IS THAT, IF YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR YOUR PASSPORT FOR THE FIRST TIME BEFORE YOU GOT MARRIED, YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR MAIDEN NAME IN NUMBER TWO AND IF YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR YOUR PASSPORT FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER YOU GOT MARRIED, YOU WILL PUT YOUR MARRIED NAME IN #2.

iN MY CASE, I ONLY APPLIED FOR MY PASSPORT AFTER I GOT MARRIED, SO THE NVC TOLD ME THAT ITS SHOULD BE MY MARRIED NAME IN #2.

THIS REALLY IS CONFUSING.

TO MAKE SURE OF THIS, BETTER CALL NVC AND DOS

i WAS SO ANNOYED WITH NVC BECAUSE THE INFO THEY WANT IS VERY CLEAR (oTHER nAMES uSED IF MARRIED PUT MAIDEN NAME)I

i FOLLOWED THE NVC's instruction and i my case was completed.

I still don't get it. What does when your applied for your passport for the first time have to do with it?

Is this what you are saying: (what I read from you seems backwards)

If your passport is in your married name:

You put your current name (the married name) in #1 and your maiden name in #2.

If your passport is in your maiden name:

You put your maiden name in #1 and your married name in #2.

In my case, the beneficiary is divorced but never resumed her maiden name. That makes the conditions imposed on you even harder for me to understand.

Also, I'm still unclear if item #2 needs full names, or if former last names alone is sufficient?

Folks (trailmix in particular), please check the attached file and the following usage instructions for the I-864 RFE coversheets, before I post them to the James' shortcuts pinned topic. I would like to weed out any obvious mistakes or omissions before I bring this to everyone's attention for the rest of time....

I've made some minor updates to the I-864 RFE shortcut file, based on some comments I received and my own usage.

The revised file for the I-864 RFE shortcut is attached to this message. The instructions to use it remain here for the time being. The attachment of the old file has been deleted.

I used this myself today, and once my RFE is entered received on my case, I will post the instructions on the pinned James' shortcuts thread and delete the attachments from here.

The IV fee bill is now also available to use in a separate topic, per your requests, which you can jump to by clicking here. Maybe someone will try that one day and let us know what happens.

HI CHRIS PARKER,

i'M SORRY IF MY POST IS A LITTLE BIT CONFUSING. yEAH, I MYSELF IS STILL CONFUSED UNTIL NOW :D .

hope this helps. (YOU KNOW WHAT, THERE SHOULD BE A NEW THREAD FOR THE RFE ON #2. THere are lots of vj'rs here got problem on #2.

This was posted by D&A

Hi Rina,

I believe for AUREA's case which I asked about last week, her DS230 was sent back because of question #2. NVC said it should have been the married name like the one on the passport. EVEN though it clearly states "If married woman, give maiden name". I tried contacting NVC regarding this and haven't been able to get thru. I am actually on the phone on hold now as I typed this! I hope I can clear this up and get a straight answer from NVC. My wife is sending her stuff this week (DS230 & required docs) and I want to make sure on this one. I will let you guys know what answers I get from NVC.

God Bless,

Den

Okay VJ'rs with the same scenario....I just got off the phone from State Department and before that I talked to NVC (took me all morning btw but finally got a answer). BOTH parties (NVC & State Dept.) agreed that for questions #1 and #2 on Part 1 of the DS230 application - if you and your spouse got married and then has gotten your passport afterwards (like for my case, I got married in the Philippines last Nov. 06 and then my wife later applied for a Phil. passport, got it and has her married name on the passport) then you will need to put your spouse (s) MARRIED NAME (as shown on the their passport) for BOTH questions #1 and #2. Basic rule according to NVC and State Dept. is that they will go with what's on your spouse(s) name on his/her passport. Moreover, this will also apply for Part 2 questions #26 and #27. Hope that helps a few here!!

Good luck everyone!!!

Be very carefule in #20.That's also the reason of my RFE

I dont think you did somthing wong in #22.There was even a gap in the time i've been working.and i wasnt RFE'd for the #22 I thought it was not a big deal. But anyway, you have to follow what they wanted you to do. Pray that the one reviewing your case may have the big heart to approve your case soon. RFE is really a nuisance. Good Luck!

Yeah, I can completely see how they would get an RFE for the name etc (I'm sorry you did though ness).

What I am saying though is that I don't understand them asking you to put days you were not working in the employment history section....very weird.

It is really ridiculous for them to be pointing out little things that do not have any bearing at all.. I mean OK it's really a problem for them to figure out names :o , but employment history...c'mon...if you have no work for those months or a year, let's say..is there really a need for you to put you are unemployed?

This just add to my frustrations with them  Believe it or not, my DS230 still has not been reviewed and there's more to it with NVC live operator I talked to last night...he was rude and nasty to me

It's OK I called the number, it was DOS. They have no jurisdiction on my case since it's still with NVC waiting for the CASE COMPLETE.

My biggest concern is that it would be a transaction number--like the a year long running number of how many IV bills they've sent out...that would be nearly impossible for us to predict. Or a random number.

Funny, I thought that's what the case number was... :)

My plan is not to give the number, or give all 0's for it, unless we know for sure what it is, and see if NVC really needs it to process the payment.

My extended number is: 019675358

So here is the list so far:

Geist 019582681

Lady Jane 019675358

My guess is that these are sequential. Rina can you IM me your extended numbers and we can compare?

I have an idea. If someone's case has *just* had the IV bill generated/received, then can call the NVC and say that they forgot to add the IV bill sheet but they have their NVC case number (without the extra digits) written on the money order. And they were wondering if those numbers were necessary for them to process the bill. I would call...but my DS230 has just been generated, so they know my IV bill was OK. ;)

The only think interesting is the duplicate IV bills are said to have the same extended number but a later different date.

I suppose it's possible these are some internal NVC case number that isn't embassy-specific, but it doesn't matter, we can't get them or figure them out ahead of time.

I maintain my position that I really don't think these extended numbers are needed to post the payment, because if they are needed, they should be retrievable using the case number. We'll have to see what happens when someone tries to make an IV payment without the extended number available.

I did almost exactly that. I was asking for the bill number. They said there is no bill number, operators don't have access to the barcode data, but the only number you need to include on the money order is the case number, payment should be sent with the NVC payment coupon only.
