Help! Me and my fiance have filed the I-129F form. It has been approved by the CSC and the NVC has received it, but when I called to confirm the NVC had it I realized I had put the wrong date of birth on the I129 F. In addtition to this my fiance does not have his actual birth certificate. He does have an Indian passport and can provide all the secondary evidence necessary to confirm his actual date of birth though. What should we do? Will this mess up our petition?

Your petition has already been approved, so NO it will not mees up your petition. I would offer to correct the mistake at the consulate interview. He will need his birth certificate at the interview or a good reason he does not have one. Birth certificates are not just an easy thing for some countries and the consulate understands this. If he cannot get a copy of the birth certificate before the interview, then get whatever documentation he can to prove his date of birth and that the certificate is not available.

"inconvenience" is NOT a valid excuse for not having a document, they do not care if it is EASY to get, only if it is impossible to get.

Thank you so much. I have been stressing about this ever since I realized my mistake. I figured that since the petition has been approved they haven't had a problem doing the initial background checks, but this is too important to make mistakes. Now I'll just make sure he gets all of his documents for the interview and hope that it goes well? Does it help the interview at all if I am present?

Just write an email to the Embassy explaining this along with the correct B-Day. You can also write a statement up as well to the CO with the same explanation as addtitional back-up and when you submit your other documents to VFS, submit this too. I write the embassy all the time mis-spelling my fiance's name and so forth. They are used to goofs, so don't be over-worried. Also, you can contact the USCIS and NVC to inform them of your mistake. This will help alleviate your concerns. It really is not a big deal though as long as you 'acknowledge' it to the appropriate entities.

I went to the interview and suggest it for anyone. I cannot say it "made a difference". we had no questions asked, but so have some people that didn't go and it is fairly common at the Kiev consulate. I can tell you for a fact it made a HUGE difference for Alla and I care about her alot more than the consulate anyway. I was there for HER, any benefit in the interview was strictly incidental. Kiev allows the USC to attend the interview (usually), some consulates do not, but many USCs will go anyway and send in their passport to show they are present.
