Round Trip Ticket v One Way Ticket

Hello All,

Individuals issued a nonimmigrant visa must purchase a round trip airline ticket while those with immigrant visas need only a one way ticket. Since the K1 visa is in a gray category, does anyone know for sure whether a round trip ticket is required or just recommended? Any ideas about where I can find out for sure? Thanks!

Buy a one way ticket unless it's cheaper to buy round trip. The K1 is for the beneficiary to enter, marry and stay in the country therefore there is no requirement for a return ticket.

Buy a one way ticket unless it's cheaper to buy round trip. The K1 is for the beneficiary to enter, marry and stay in the country therefore there is no requirement for a return ticket.

There are no requirements on ticket purchases, go with the way you get the better deal.

We bought a roundtrip becuase it was cheaper, then we just blew off the return.

According to some airlines, you can only buy a one way ticket if you can prove you are immigrating...since you are, you can do as you choose.

I bought a return ticket. Return £320, single £520. I'm not going to pay an extra £200 when I don't need to!

that just seems so un explainable how they can justify a one way being more expensive than a round trip... My brain cannot fathom a reason....

The reason why one-way tickets are more expensive is because these tickets are unrestricted, are from a higher booking class and you usually can do whatever you want with it (change it without fees, cancel and get a refund, etc). There are only a few fares that can actually be used for a one-way. I know because I used to work for an airline.

So when you get a really cheap ticket it´s because you found a very restricted fare, which you probably cannot get refunded or get the dates changed without paying a high fee.

I´ve also been searching for tickets and I found out that at this time of the year it´s possible to find one-way tickets that are cheaper than round-trip ones!!!! Go figure...

Just buy whatever is cheaper. I've entered the US on a K1 visa and had "only" a one way ticket. It's not a problem at all.

They don't. You only need a roundtrip ticket if you are a tourist WITHOUT a visa - i.e. if your country participates in VWP.

If you want to buy a one way ticket, you probably are going home and are willing to pay for it...
