Does anyone know if I can obtain my police check without being at the police station in person? Is there any way I can get a family member or friend to get it on my behalf?

March 6, 2007 - I-129F package sent

March 21, 2007 - I-129F NOA2

October 17, 2007 - K1 interview - approved

October 19, 2007 - K1 arrived in mail

October 21, 2007 - US entry

October 23, 2007 - Wedding day

November 27, 2007 - AOS, EAD, AP package sent

December 7, 2007 - Received all 3 NOA's for AOS, AP & EAD

December 10, 2007 - Received letter for biometrics appointment

January 2, 2008 - I-485 transferred to California

January 3, 2008 - Biometrics

January 16, 2008 - RFE for I-485

January 22, 2008 - RFE for I-485 arrived

January 23, 2008 - AP approved

January 25, 2008 - Case status finally updated: AP approved January 23!

January 31, 2008 - EAD card production ordered

February 2, 2008 - AP arrived in mail

February 5, 2008 - Sending a letter/RFE to CSC

February 5, 2008 - EAD card production ordered (again?!)

February 7, 2008 - RFE/letter arrived at CSC

February 7, 2008 - EAD approval sent

February 9, 2008 - EAD card received, dated January 23rd!

February 25, 2008 - CSC finally acknowledges receiving RFE

February 27, 2008 - I-485 APPROVED!

February 27, 2008 - Online case status: notice mailed welcoming new permanent resident.

March 3, 2008 - Received welcome letter

March 3, 2008 - I-485 approval letter sent

March 6, 2008 - Green card arrived in mail.

November 2009 - Removal of conditions...

You have to apply yourself. Best to get it done in person while you are in Canada.

If you apply outside of the country, you'll need to submit fingerprints done by the local police and file with the RCMP which takes forever to do.

AOS & EAD Timeline

2007-04-16: I-485 and I-765 sent to Chicago (My AOS/EAD checklist)

2007-04-17: Received at Chicago

2007-04-23: NOA1 date (both)

2007-05-10: Biometrics appointment (both - Biometrics review)

2007-06-05: AOS interview letter date

2007-06-13: AOS interview letter received in mail

2007-07-03: EAD card production ordered

2007-07-07: EAD card received! (yay!)

2007-08-23: AOS interview (Documents / Interview review)

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!

2007-08-24: Welcome notice mailed!

2007-08-27: Green card production ordered again... ?

2007-08-28: Welcome notice received!

2007-09-01: Green card received!

Done with USCIS until May 23, 2009!

I got one from Winnipeg police while I was in Greenwod NS!!! I just called them up and got the info and sent inthe required info by mail and the fee, and they mailed me the certificate!! http://winnipeg.ca/police/ I had resided in winnipeg for only a few months, but I dont recal them asking if I had, I just stated it was for immigration!!! And it states right on the cert that it was done Canada wide. Not sure if they would mail outside of Canada, if not get it mailed to relatives in canada. I belive I had to photocopy 2 pieces of ID, I used a Sk Birth cert and NS drivers license!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Weird! I always thought/read that police checks you could only get in person or from abroad through RCMP only. Good to know!

I'm not sure if going through the Winnipeg Police Force would work!! But could be an option.

I was able to get a police check while I was in the U.S. from Canada. I sent a letter to my father giving him authorization to inquire for and obtain a copy of my police check. Along with a letter I had to send a notarized copy of 2 pieces of i.d.

Call the nearest police division to confirm the process. They will be able to give youfull details. Hope this helped!
