Cheap Shipping From UK to USA

I just came back from my local DHL office. I went there to get some packing materials, which they didn't have. The man at the desk gave me a quote for the dimensions of my package. 10x50x65(pictures in frames) it would cost 97 pounds. He then told me that there is a company that buys space on DHL flights. And that they had a website for parcel shipping and it was a lot cheaper than regular DHL although it really is still DHL. He went to this website and got a quote with the same dimensions and it would cost 37 pounds. Now that is cheaper. He told me that you type in all of your shipping details and then print all of the shipping labels. They will come to you to pick up the parcels, or you can drop it off at your local DHL. Imagine that.

I cannot remember the company I used but it was one that did it through DHL - so maybe it was the same thing but I had problems with them. They gave me a quote for my moving stuff by dimensions which was fine, sent it on its way then they starting calling and emailing me saying I owed them another 90 pounds because it was overweight at the airport when they had said nothing of this before! We tried to fight it but then ended up paying it, so basically just be sure of the weight requirements before shipping.

So I went on that site and its CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

It instructs you to list the number of packages but then combine their size and weight into one unit. So I have royal mail parcel boxes and they are 48x38x20 and weight 10k. So I added up nine boxes that makes 48x38x180 and 90k. The quote with 600 pounds of insurance is 147 pounds!!!! Thats CRAZY...DHL wanted to charge that for 4 boxes and like 100 pounds of insurance!!!

Just a little positive review for Parcel Monkey I thought I'd share. We decided to send all of his belongings through them. It was 34 boxes and weighed over 1000kg but since the price was comparable to what we were getting from removals companies that would've taken a few months, we just went for it.

Their customer service is totally useless- they don't really know much about the paperwork and regulations and all that, but you can just call DHL and ask them whatever you need to know- they're brilliant. So after a little mix up where they misplaced the customs form (set us back a couple of days) we got everything today, less than a week from the West Midlands to NYC door to door. And DHL called me every day after the little mishap just to keep me updated. Was fantastic.

DHL van and man arrived to collect. Estimated day of arrival next Tuesday. I will keep you posted. (Fingers Crossed)

Well I have the promised update for you. AWESOME !

DHL van arrived outside this morning at 11 am EST and delivered 4 perfectly un-tampered with and un dropped kicked or

messed with boxes. Contents were literally unmoved from how they were packed back on Thursday.

There were no issues with paperwork or with the contents. They had even placed large labels on the boxes stating that they were not to be x-rayed as they were personal effects.

I cannot recommend Parcel Monkey highly enough. ( I'm using the my laptop with the docking station that was in one of the boxes ;o) to write this review. )

My fiance and I have just been looking at shipping options for moving my stuff over to the U.S, and the costs are starting to look a bit scary.

This place though looks promising.

For those that have used this company already, what paperwork was required when shipping and what were the weight limits?

Just on a side note ive used http://www.parcel2go.com/ before as well and they're prices are a hell of alot cheaper than going through the main parcelforce/dhl/fedex websites, saying that though I think they only go up to 70kg.
