Hi all - well we are now together, but we have a new problem. We applied for a ss card a couple of days after he arrived. We planned on marrying right away and filing for the AOS. However - we are being advised by the ss administration that we are going to have to wait six weeks to receive a ss #. Has anyone else experienced this? Please help.

K-1 VISA APPLICATION

NVC received: 7-1-09

Out of AP at NVC: 7-14-09

Delivered to consulate: 7-17-09

So the SSA accepted your application for a SS# and they told you it could take 6 weeks. Correct? If so, it's only been about 2 weeks since you applied, that is not an unusual amount of time (2 to 4 weeks is typical).

Are you thinking you need the SS# to file for AOS?

Actually when filling aos, you don't have to fill ssn there. It's okay if you haven't had it yet, then you can write none or n/a. It's not something very urgent to fill ssn there.

Received an information paper when I arrived that said I would receive SSN within 3 weeks and to call if I didn't. Wellll I didn't and when I called they said it normally takes 6-8 weeks.

Actually it's not a problem, Some states and or city do require a social security # to be able to marry, if this is the case and you have called yourself to confirm that, and told them that your spouse is foreign and you need to marry to satisfy an immigration requirement, if they said no, then just go to another city or state... Vegas seems to be popular.
