K1-INTERVIEW FILE PREPARATION

Ok, i'm sure there have been other threads... I just wanted to run down my file with you guys, as I think i'm ready, but you guys can let me know what your thoughts are :)

I have all originals of the following plus a copy of:

Passport (me and my son)

Birth Certificates (both long and short)

Photos (US size I have 3 left over, son has 5...more than enough)

Police report (RCMP clearance, issued by York Region in Ontario)

Updated letter of intent from US fiance (he just resigned the old one, but he will also be at interview)

I-134 Affidavit of Support (notarized)

Petitioner tax filings for 2007 & 2008. He is trying to get IRS transcripts for 2006 and 2007, they may not have processed 2008 yet as he just filed

DS-160 (2 copies of app's and confirmation pages)

DS-156 (2 copies)

DS-156K (2 copies unsigned)

Medical sealed envelope

Divorce Decree (my previous marriage)

Separation Agreement (with my ex-husband, showing his agreement to allow us to reside in US and shows my full custody)

Copy of my lawyers file (from the original filing, NOA2 etc...plus copies of original proof sent in, phone bills, plane tickets etc..)

Additional proof includes:

Phone bills for every month since we met showing 30 calls a day lol! :)

Photos since we met (130 of them, not time stamped, but I have 4 different hair colours in them... one can only assume I did not dye my hair 4x in a week lol!)

A bunch of cards from flowers my fiance has sent me over the years from the same flower shop

A visit log, listing our plate #'s, and dates of all travels back and forth for the past two years.

I also have the Xray, need it or not i'll bring it, as well as our immunization records. My son and I are going for our next HepB shot (Twinrix) this week... he needs it so I just got it with him. I figure it will show good that he is following up with his scheduled shot, as he only had the first one at the medical.

I am also going to get the Xpresspost envelope this week, and the $262.00 US that we will need.

SO???? :star:

Am I forgetting anything? Do I have enough proof?

My fiance will attend interview with me. My only stress right now is hoping the IRS transcripts come in time. I'm sure they understand if 2008 may not be processed yet? But he does have a copy of his filing.

Any input is appreciated :)

I'm so nervous! I feel like my whole future depends on this day! My apartment is packed up and after June 1st I have nowhere to go! lol!

Wish me luck next Friday :innocent:

Thanks guys! :star::star::star:

Looks good!! But wow, you're going to be carrying around a lot of paper

I think maybe, since your fiance is going to be there, you might want to consider bringing less evidence. Chances are they won't ask, and even if they do, having a couple months of phone bills instead of 2 years worth would probably be sufficient.... My interpretation of it, is that they mostly want to see evidence of an ongoing relationship after you filed the original petition, someone can correct me if I'm wrong. My plan is to being like 4 months worth of phone bills, boarding passes from the trips we've taken after filing the I-129F (since they have copies of itineraries from 2005 until then) and then pictures (like 25, which i thought was a lot!) and some wedding planning stuff, just in case the subject comes up. But It definitely doesn't hurt to have more then what you'd need! So if that makes you feel more comfortable then go with it.

I wish you luck! You seem very prepared, I can't imagine anything going wrong :)

I agree - they didnt ask to see ANY of my evidence, only asked questions about the pics I had sent with the initial I-129F pack, and I didn't have my fiance with me either...so you should be good :)

Agree... I wasn't asked for any evidence at all (and I had a TON!). I also didn't have any tax information aside from his W-2 from this year. I just attached that, a letter from his employer and a summary of his deposits over the past year to the affidavit and was not questioned about any part of that.

  • 7/7/08 -- I-129f sent
  • 7/9/08 -- I-129f received at CSC
  • 7/24/08 -- NOA1 (finally!)
  • 12/2/08 -- NOA2 (WOOT!!!!)
  • 12/8/08 -- received at NVC
  • 12/22/08 -- packet 3 (with packet 4 attachment instead of checklist :P)
  • 12/29/08 -- packet 3 sent back with bits and pieces that I pulled together to make up a packet 3
  • 1/5/09 -- actual packet 3 received, but found out by via e-mail that they were satisfied with what I had already provided
  • 2/10/09 -- found out via call to DoS that my interview is scheduled!
  • 3/16/09 -- interview!!!! APROVED!!!
  • 4/7/09 -- MOVE!!!!!!!!

We really don't have much proof for the wedding, as we plan on marrying on the beach, just him and I. I can bring a photocopy of the NJ website for licenses where we will get our license. We are also waiting to book our stay.

Have they asked anyone else for wedding proof?

As for the financial stuff, I hope it goes without a hitch! We will bring a copy of bank statement with a large balance and his tax stuff...

I hope the fact that my fiancé will be there, will help. I would not be able to answer very thoroughly any questions on his practice....I mean I know the basics, but the financial stuff boggles me :)

Hey K34, you moving today??? Good luck :)!!!

Don't worry, Poprocks. They don't ask for proof of the wedding. I also don't recall being required to bring additional proof of relationship. The interview is pretty much a formality for the straight-forward cases. You'll be fine.

Thanks Krikit, makes me feel better! :) I just hope the IRS trans make it in! I would hate to be turned away for insufficient docs :( gotta stay positive!!!! :)

Hey Poprocks...you and I have our interview on the same day ;) I am glad you posted this because I was going to but now I can just mooch off your advice :P

I agree with the others, ALL that proof is unnecessary. I was only planning to bring 4 photos as evidence, looks like maybe I will tack on a few more :P But I guess if it makes you feel better, it is worth it to bring.

Maybe this will help. Here is the way I am looking at the interview:

These people are busy. They understand we are coming from far (usually), they do not want to waste our time, and ESPECIALLY don't wanna waste THEIR time. So, the interview is kind of like a "ok, let us just see everything looks good and is legit". I take it as like, you are who you say you are and all the photos/evidence you have sent in IS of you and your fiance, etc. I think it would not look good if they were letting in people without having someone in an embassy actually MEET a potential immigrant. Had this last step not existed, think of how much easier it would be for fraudulent people to enter the US. This is the final "ooooooook, it IS you!" thing. My take on it anyway :) They wouldn't drag you all the way out there just to tell you "TOO BAD SUCKA!!". Like I said, it wastes their time doing that. SO, a denial should be the least of your worries :P

That's why I am not really worried about the interview (yet!!!). I would think it would be VERY difficult to get denied. Just don't wear a "NOBAMA" shirt or something ;) But really, the interview is a last thing for the USCIS to say "ok, this person is legit, we have met them, they can come". My 2 cents anyway ;) Hope that eases your stress. I mean, I will be stressing too!! But, thinking about that makes it a little better. AND worse comes to absolute worse, if you need to send in more forms or something you can resend it in in a matter of days and it is all good.

Good luck and see you there! :D

Well, even if you do have insufficient docs, they'll just hold the visa until you send them in. Not a biggie.

So if I have to send follow up docs, do they hold my visa, match it and still send out within days? I was worried that your file went back into a queue and it would take a couple months to match and approve etc...

So there's a chance that if I sent in what they wanted, the delay could be only a few days?????? I'm so excited to hear that!!!!!! :)

Yep, they hold onto your file until they receive the documents. It doesn't take long at all.

OK, is it just me, or what????? Someone is wrong, either US or Canada lol!

I went to the Post Office, the largest Xpress post mailer they have is 390mm x 295mm. US letter says it has to be 314mm x 394mm. But both measure 12x15 inches. I know we use different metric conversions for some stuff... but a diff in mm's????

Maybe cause I haven't had my Timmie's yet? lol!

So I got the 12x15 inch regional mailer, with signature required. I filled in my info as recipient. Should I fill in the Consulate as sender and then tear off the tracking number? Or do we wait to do that at the Consulate? And if I do fill it in, do I use the actual Embassy address?

Also, should I put my name and case# on the back of my photos now, or wait for when i'm there?

I'm not taking a purse with me, I will take a wallet and car keys. I plan on putting my file in one of those Earth Friendly LuLuLemon bags lol! I figure, if they make me get rid of it, I won't miss it :)

Don't fill in the "FROM" field, they do that. Only fill in the "TO" portion.

Why not put the info on the photos now? It will be easier than rushing there to do it.

Oh and don't tear off anything! They will give you whatever, but write down the tracking # now to be safe.
