Does anyone know what vaccinations ARE required for AOS??

Hi - After reading a different post about someone's experience at their AOS interview (I believe there was a question of whether or not the applicant had a vaccination or not --- the applicants wife had decided that her hubby should have it and they brought proof of it to the AOS interview and upon doing so they were told by the interviewer that if they did not bring proof of this vaccination they would have had to come back .....) OK so now you have the background on what I am thinking about right now....

Just wondering ---- does anyone know exactly what vaccinations are required?? I looked at my husbands DS3025 and some of the vaccinations were marked not age appropriate or not routinely available..... one of the vaccinations being the hepatitis b (i would have thought this was one that would be required.) Also, I do not see ANYTHING about a TB test -- my husband had an xray taken for this but not the actual little poke that we all should remember from our childhood --- can anyone comment whether or not this is required or not??

Thanks in advance,

Malarie

Hi,

I would contact Dr. Arnold's office, they transfer the info from DS-3025 to I-693a and they tell you what vaccines your husband is missing. They only charge $ 10 and they do it by mail, phone and fax. According to Dr. Arnold my husband needed the chicken pox vaccine. Although he had the chicken pox when he was younger and I think there is a test to see if you have antibodies, I thought it would be easier to get the shot and finish with it. It is expensive, $100. I heard of other people going to the same Dr.Khadija in Casa missing 2 shots, so now I am worried that he is missing something and I have already sent the papers.

Good luck!!

Hi - My husband went to Dr. Khadija too....so which 2 have people been missing? The chicken pox and which other? I work for a group of physicians who could easily administer what he would be missing ..... I just need to know which... I guess I really need to contact Dr. Arnold and check all things out!

I submitted all the paperwork already too - hence the reason we have our AOS interview in March -- I think it will be OK if we do find out our hubbys need something additional and we have it done by a CS and put on the I693a etc.... and then just bring it to the interview ----- that is my plan at least sooo...

I will post what I find out!

All I can tell you is what our local Civil Surgeon said - he said my husband, aged 26, needed just the Tetanus and 2 doses each of MMR and Varicella. He got those and we were approved with no other questions or requests. (He had no records of previous vaccinations he had in his youth, and didn't even know what he could have been vaccinated for.)

Due to that news of the guy who came into USA with a serious strain of TB last year, for a while SOME USCIS offices were requiring the TB skin test too (even though everyone had the TB X-Ray as part of the Consulate's medical). So we had him do the TB skin test too just in case, however no one asked for it at the interview.

Basically, the required vaccinations are standard but some offices have their own whims for additional requirements (like the TB skin test). Just like how some applications are approved with no RFE and other applications get an RFE - though exactly the same evidence was submitted!

MMR, TD and varicella for most people (18 -64)

Some countries do not have the TD vaccine available so that is usually the one needed here.

"Also, I do not see ANYTHING about a TB test -- my husband had an xray taken for this but not the actual little poke that we all should remember from our childhood --- can anyone comment whether or not this is required or not??"

for TB test, the PPD, which used to be a poke, and is now an "under the skin, check back for reaction later" thing, is to look to see if you have been in the presence of TB (antigens)... if that is positive, they then do a chest xray to see if you actually do HAVE TB or have just been exposed to it. now, foreigners often get a shot that make the PPD (skin test) positive anyway, so they have a chest xray to rule out the TB. if he has had the chest xray,

if he has had the chest xray, they wouldnt go back a step to do the skin test, as the chest xray is the proof, and the PPD is just to see if you have been exposed to it (to avoid doing xrays on every single person).

so summary: chest xray=proof of no TB. is that clear?

The PPD is a requirement. My now husband didn't have one either and we were RFE'd for it. Even though he had a clear x-ray. They do want the PPD to be done.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) instructs "panel physicians" designated in other countries for conducting medical examinations of immigrants to the U.S. in coordination with consular immigrant visa processing. In late 2007, CDC announced two changes for these medical exams.

First, CDC appears to have changed the vaccination requirements for all applicants examined abroad by panel physicians as follows:

* Rotavirus vaccine, hepatitis A vaccine, meningococcal vaccine, human papillomavirus vaccine, and zoster vaccine have been added as age-appropriate to the vaccination requirements.

* Hepatitis B vaccine is required through 18 years of age.

* Influenza vaccine is required for children ages 6-59 months.

* Acellular pertussis-containing vaccines have been developed for persons ages 10-64 years.

Other significant changes to the immigration vaccination requirements are?

* Rotavirus vaccine should be given orally to children 2 through 6 months of age.

* Hepatitis A vaccine should be given to children 12 through 23 months of age.

* Meningococcal conjugate vaccine, specifically tetravalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4) should be given to persons 11 through 18 years of age.

* Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine (MPSV) or other forms of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (e.g., monovalent MCV) is an acceptable alternative if MCV4 is not available.

* Human papillomavirus vaccine should be given to females 11 through 26 years of age.

* Zoster vaccine should be given to persons 60 years of age or older.

* Hepatitis B vaccine should be given from birth through 18 years of age.

* Influenza vaccine should be given annually to children 6 through 59 months of age. It continues to be required for adults 50 years of age or older.

* Acellular pertussis-containing vaccines are available for use in persons at least 10 years of age. The adolescent and adult formulation of tetanus and diphtheria toxoid and acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine is given as a single (booster) dose for persons 10 through 64 years of age who have completed the recommended childhood diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and the pertussis/diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis (DTP/DTaP) vaccine series.

Rotavirus children 2 through 6 months of age.

Hepatitis A children 12 through 23 months of age

Meningococcal persons 11 through 18 years of age

Human papillomavirus females 11 through 26 years of age

Does that mean that if you are 39 you do not need any of these?

Thank you.
