My Thai wife and I have just been appoved at the Bangkok embassy for her CR/1 visa (married under 2 years). I filled the original documents at the Bangkok Embassy (I have lived in Thailand for more than 1 year, and have a Thai marriage visa for myself).

The only tricky part was filling out the affidavit of support correctly, other than that the interview as about 10 min. some small adjustments on the affidavit and the man wanted to look at some photo's of us together. Did not ask any questions about us!

The entire prosses took about 5 months. I filled approx. October 2005 and interview day was Feb. 1st 2006. We will be entering the US 3 months after our 2nd year wedding anniversery, As I understand it she will be issued an 1R/1 visa upon entering the US.

RickVenturini,

Congratulations.

Question for you - was there any issue with regard to you having US domicile? Is that the I-864 problem you mention? Other people I have known who were allowed to submit their I-130 to the USCIS in Bangkok had problems with domicile when they went to the consulate with the visa application. One fellow in particular had to return to the USA alone to establish domicile before the consulate would issue the visa to his wife.

Point of clarification - you wife will not be issued a visa on entry to the USA. The visa she's got is the only visa she's going to get. Rather, she will gain LPR status on entry, and that status will be in the IR1 category. Her visa will be endorsed to act as a 'temporary' Green Card untill the actual card is made and sent to her

Welcome home to you, and welcome to the USA to your wife.

RickVenturini,

Thanks for your input on the visa upon entry.

YES to your question about domicile, that was an area I did not complete. The interviewer cannot give you advise so he asked (" I see you did not fill out the domicile, you must have this to have the visa approved, I assume you forgot to fill in your mothers address as the domicile, ok thats what I thought, please fill in your mothers address as your domicile." )

I did use my mothers address as the mail residence that I used to return to the US with my wife.

Thanks

Rick
