So we don't have to dig around for these ....I thought I'd just make this list again (especially for those who haven't seen or heard of them before) of some places that sell Brit goodies. You can get quite a few of your favorite foods from home...not to worry, don't panic!!! :P I've bought from the first 4 stores, including...yes, bacon and sausages. Shipping can get expensive, but it's worth it once in awhile.

Wise Choice British Foods, Gifts, & Candies

British Delights

English Tea Store

Goodwoods British Market

Britsuperstore

Taste of Britain by Post

The British Shoppe

And then I found this site, BRITS IN THE US, which has an exhaustive list.

Also, if you have a World Market near you, check them out...they sell Brit sweets, and we even got some really nice Indian sauces and paneer for a curry dinner!

My fiance and I briefly entertained the thought of starting a mail order British cheese business -- the finest Red Leicester, Stilton, Cheshire, Farmhouse Cheddar, Gloucester, Carphilley, etc.

We thought we might even do direct-to-your-home deliveries on a motorbikehere in LA, and call ourselves Cheesy Rider.

Oneday, maybe, one day.........

I'd also recommend checking out your local area for British food stores. There's a couple downtown here in Salt Lake City, and I've already been a couple of times. It's ran by a Brit, for Brits. Pretty cool. :) I got a Curly Wurly, Twirl and some Cheddars yesterday to snack on. I still have half a bar of Cadbury's, Tetley tea and chocolate digestives from my last visit.

The guy who runs it is really nice and will try and get hold of stuff he hasn't got that you really want.

But the online stores are good if you can't find food stores in your local area, for sure. :)

Good job I brought a big jar over then. ;)

And thank goodness my family will send me stuff when I need it. They're going to have a big list of stuff to bring when they come over for my wedding. :)

I was in target the other day and I saw that they had Stilton and some other cheese I can't remember the name of that is wonderful and has cranberries in it (it's white) and a few others, so you can find the cheeses, just a bit expensive! Stilton smells like dead feet/old cellars to me though....James loves it! And yes, I have tried it.

We can get an excellent range of cheeses from Neal's Yard (including stilton) at our local co-op for $10-13 a pound which is a pretty good deal. I've been chatting up their buyer for years and after pointing out it would include a trip overseas, the cheese counter and beer selection has drastically improved!

You get Neal's Yard Cheese? Where you live? I'm moving nearby!

Stilton is definitely an acquired taste -- when I lived in Hong Kong, a chinese friend told me that most chinese feel the same revulsion to blue cheese that most westerners feel towards chicken feet (and yeah, I tried it). I guess she had a point, considering stilton is made from mold off a piece of wire. Not that it stops me from enjoying it.

Yep, here in Vermont where, personally I think their local cheese is #######. I don't know why people rave over it. It's very mediocre. I've also seen Neal's Yard cheese in the co-ops in NH. Co-ops are great if you have a good one nearby. I know Trader Joes has cheap stilton too. It's not such top quality but a good price and hits the spot...just about ;)
